1. What about the deaf girl and why no one thought to save her from or inform her about the approaching radiation. I grew up in a small town like that, and from what I remember, the whole town kinda adopts the disabled people (usually since most people in town are from families that have lived there for generations and have intermarried enough that you are either related by blood, marriage or acquaintance to almost everyone in town.

2. Black family moves into an all-white small town and NO BODY knew about it. Yeah. Right. Again from my rural American upbringing: local real estate agents talk to others about who they are selling the "old Jones place" to. Word spreads. EVERYONE knows when a new family is moving into town - especially if they are fro out of state or are an ethnic group other than that of the majority.
