Jericho Article
Q&A with Beth Grant (Gracie Leigh) March, 2007
1. What inspired you to become an actress?
I was inspired to be an actress because my mother loved the movies
and
wanted to be an actress. She taught me a song, "Oh, Where Have You Been
Billy Boy, Billy Boy" which I sang to my uncle when he came home from
the
Navy in Korea. His eyes light up and he smiled so big. I was hooked on
the
light in his eyes.
2. What is your favorite color?
Teal (blue green) is my favorite color.
3. What is your favorite thing about working on Jericho?
Skeet Ulrich is my favorite thing about Jericho!! What a beautiful
man,
inside and out.
4. Any advice for aspiring actors?
I always tell new actors to study, study study. Get in a class, join
a
theatre group. Do one play after another. Build a rolodex of friends
and
supporters. Persistence, belief, self confidence. How do you get true
self
confidence? Action. Scene study, plays, experience.
5. Is there any backstory info you can give us about Gracie Leigh or
her relationship with Dale?
The writers didn't tell us much about the back story, so I may be
wrong,
but I believe that Gracie knew Dale's mom and knew that she was always
off,
chasing a man and that he needed some adult guidance. That's why she
offered
him the job at the store. And she taught him how to "rise above."
Gracie's
own husband left her and she never had children, so Dale was her only family. I
guess if they do flashbacks, we might find out more.
6. Do you have any pets?
I have a dog, Angel and 4 cats, Mary Kitty, Michael Kitty, Rainbow
and
Doughnut. Grandma Kitty passed away last year.
7. Do you still watch the show?
I LOVE Jericho and can't wait to see what happens next. I think Jake
is
going to really emerge as a great leader. He's got it all going on!
8. Which job, not counting Jericho, was your favorite?
I loved doing DONNIE DARKO. The script... the director/writer, Richard
Kelly, is a genius. I'm also in his new film, SOUTHLAND TALES, which I
hear
will be out in the fall.
9. Did you grow up in a small town or big city, and did you like it?
We moved around a lot when I was a child. I mostly lived in a
mid-sized
city of 50,000 people. But I've lived in small towns and cities. All
over.
10. Which movie actor would you choose to star in a movie about your
life?
The only actor who looks like me is my daughter, who is just getting
started at 14. She played the younger me in a movie that should be out
this
year called NATURAL DISASTERS. She had 4 scenes, no lines, but she was
great. I honestly can't think of a star that could play me.
MORE INFO: A nuclear mushroom cloud appears on the
horizon -- and for the residents of Jericho, a small Kansas town, it
could mean they're the only Americans left alive. Fear of the unknown
propels Jericho into mayhem, causing the town to come apart at the
seams. Secrets are revealed, personal agendas take over
and even the most sensible people become paranoid. But even in a time of
crisis, some folks will find an inner strength they never knew existed,
causing them to emerge as the most unlikeliest of heroes. As the
citizens slowly rebuild Jericho, however, they also find themselves in a
bitter turf war with the residents of another town, New Bern.
