Somewhat fittingly for a show about a time lord, it looks like Doctor Who fans around the world are going to have to set their alarm clocks to make sure that they catch the series' 50th Anniversary Special this November. The BBC has announced today that the episode will be simulcast around the world to try and cut down on the number of spoilers leaking onto the Internet after its initial U.K. broadcast.
According to a statement released today by BBC Worldwide, the BBC's commercial arm responsible for the sale of Who to broadcasters in 200 countries, "It's always been our ambition to work with our broadcast partners so that international Doctor Who fans can enjoy the 50th Anniversary special at the same time as the UK. We'll have more details soon about our very exciting global plans for November."
The episode -- which will be transmitted in 3D in Britain and accompanied by screenings in movie theaters around the country -- will begin at 7pm on Saturday, November 23 in the United Kingdom, with BBC America's transmission beginning at 11am on the West Coast and 2pm on the East.
Promoting November's 50th episode festivities, the exiting star of the BBC America series talks about his time playing the iconic character.
Matt Smith hasn't even seen the script for his final episode of Doctor Who yet, but his impending exit is all anyone wanted to talk about when he appeared at the Television Critics Association press tour on Thursday morning.
"It's kind of business as usual," he said. "It is going to be emotional for me because it's been four years. It's a really transformative experience as an actor. We just kind of make the show though, don't we?"
Smith said that he was conflicted about the decision to leave after this year's Christmas special but ultimately felt the time was right. "I think the show has come to a natural tipping point, and it's at the top of a cycle," he added. "I think it's a good time for me and the show."
Producers have also been pushing the story in that direction. Marcus Wilson, on-hand with Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman, spoke about the addition of Clara and how she would be helping facilitate the transition to the next Doctor.
"There were discussions as soon as I started, so I knew it was likely that Matt would be leaving us at the end of this season," said Coleman. "I knew that I was playing three different characters, but we didn't know until later in the season the reveal of that. … It was just the quest of how the same girl can pop up throughout time and space."
For the 50th anniversary, Smith spoke a little of his onscreen meeting with former Doctor David Tennant -- but insisted they were both one-upped by fellow guest John Hurt.
"David and I would be climbing the walls, and then John just flicks his eyes and the camera goes, 'Oh yeah, let's watch John Hurt,'" said Smith.
The onscreen meeting of Smith and Tennant isn't the only first for Doctor Who. It's the first time the series has seen an infusion of characters from Russell T Davies' time as showrunner since Steven Moffat took over the job. Wilson said that it was likely a one-off, but they were open to a future collaboration with Davies.
"Steven has a very good idea of what happens next," said the producer, "but we're always open to possibilities."

Doctor Who: Series 6, Part 1, a two-disc DVD and Blu-ray set, contains the first
seven episodes along with two Monster files, "The Gangers" and "The Silence,"
two of the Doctor's most challenging opponents.
In the season opener, "The Impossible Astronaut," four envelopes are received,
numbered 2, 3 and 4, each containing a date, time and map reference, unsigned,
but in TARDIS blue. Who sent them? And who received the missing number one? This
strange summons reunites the Doctor (Smith), Amy (Gillan), Rory (Darvill) and
River Song (Kingston) in the middle of the Utah desert and unveils a terrible
secret the Doctor's friends must never reveal to him. 'Space 1969' is their only
clue, as their quest lands them - quite literally - in the Oval Office, where
they are enlisted by President Nixon himself to assist enigmatic former-FBI
agent Canton (Mark Sheppard) in saving a terrified little girl from a mysterious
spaceman.
Following the two-parter, the Doctor, Amy and Rory journey on the high seas of
1696 aboard Avery's (Bonneville) pirate ship to solve the mystery of the Siren
(Cole). In a bubble universe at the very edge of reality, the Doctor meets an
old friend with a new face, and in a monastery on a remote island in the near
future, an industrial accident takes on a terrible human shape. And waiting for
them, at the end of all this, is the battle of Demon's Run, and the Doctor's
darkest hour. Can even the truth about River Song save the Time Lord's soul?
Only two things are certain. Silence will fall. And a good man is going to
die...

A New 'Doctor Who' Tries To Make Peace With Its Impatient Stateside

by Team TVLine
Paying his latest of many visits to Comic-Con, John Barrowman stopped by TVLine’s interview suite to share his very specific ideas for a female Doctor Who, as speculation continues to swirl about who will play the Twelfth Time Lord.
Reiterating his previously expressed stance that it’s time for a woman to helm the TARDIS, the Who/Torchwood alum opined to Michael Ausiello, “Let’s try something different.”
After suggesting one existing Whoniverse denizen to ostensibly fill the role, Barrowman said that if the BBC America series goes with a new face, it should be someone “who’s real” — and then he elaborates on that. Also in this video Q&A, Barrowman does his best to duck Arrow resurrection Qs, raves about taking in the Comic-Con freely as a geek boy himself — “The fans are really great with me” — and talks up his Torchwood and Hollow Earth novels, teasing possible casting ideas for a TV adaptation of the latter (which he pens with his sister).

Revealed! http://bit.ly/eeLIGw
"We are going to make it two series – seven episodes at Easter building to an earth-shattering climax, a cliffhanger we could never normally do because it would be too long before it came back," Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat told the Guardian. All five previous seasons of Doctor Who's revival have aired in a single thirteen episode batch during the spring (in the U.K.). The series will continue its annual tradition of special Christmas episodes. The change in scheduling will cut the break between seasons in half.

Released June 21 (this article is from back in March)
Christopher Eccleston's Doctor is wise and funny, cheeky and brave. An alien and a loner, his detached logic gives him a vital edge when the world's in danger. But when it comes to human relationships, he can be found wanting. That's why he needs Rose. From the moment they meet, the Doctor and Rose understand and complement each other. As they travel together through time, encountering new adversaries, the Doctor shows her things beyond imagination.
This past Tuesday, Christopher Eccleston was back on BBC One with the broadcast debut of a new show, The A Word, where Eccleston plays the grandfather of a child who has just been diagnosed with autism (hence the program's title). Eccleston was especially in the news about this debut, because on the same day of the show's premiere, a video interview of him by Gerard Groves was posted to YouTube. Groves, an autistic person himself (he has Asperger's Syndrome), is an 18-year-old BBC apprentice via the "BBC Raw" program. Groves credits Eccleston's Series 1 turn as the 9th Doctor for inspiring him and getting him into filmmaking! It's a heartwarming interview, and please take 6 minutes to check it out. And also The A Word as well, of course!
Eccleston was immortalized as the 9th Doctor in the 13 episodes of Doctor Who - The Complete 1st Series, which debuted on television in 2005 and was released on DVD in North America back in 2006. The episodes were shot in standard definition, which was still fairly par-for-the-course at the time (although that was in the process of changing). The show didn't go high-def until the 2009 broadcast debut of the Easter special, Planet of the Dead...it was the first "native HD" Who installment ever! It was near the end of David Tennant's run as the 10th Doctor.
However, in 2013 the folks at BBC Home Entertainment released a 29-disc (plus sonic screwdriver!) package called the "Doctor Who - Series 1-7 Limited Edition Blu-ray Giftset": it took the first four seasons of the show and released them on Blu by upconverting those episodes (used computer algorithms to digitally upscale a 480p image to look better on a 1080p HDTV screen...it's not "true HD," but it is an improvement over the normal SD image). (NOTE (3/26): I've gotten dozens of emails overnight reminding me that Doctor Who would have been shot at a native resolution of 576i PAL, rather than 480p NTSC...I regret the error, but the principle of upconverting is still the same.)
The Blu-ray versions of those first four seasons have been available overseas as separate items, but so far they've only been released in the USA as part of the above-named giftset. Now, however, that may be changing. We haven't gotten official notification from the BBC yet to confirm this, nor from their North American distributors (Warner Home Video). But Amazon.com (see button link below) has had a listing for a little while for Doctor Who - The Complete 1st Series on Blu-ray Disc. We didn't rush to report it sooner, because there were several irregularities about the entry.
Now the folks at Amazon seem to have cleared those issues up this week, and the listing shows a 3-disc Blu-ray package (see artwork below) priced at $59.99 SRP, and available beginning June 21st. It says to expect a "Dolby Digital 5.1 surround mix on all eps," and extras to include Audio Commentary and "almost 5 hours of 'making of' interviews and behind-the- scenes footage" (both previously found on the DVD release of this season).
Will this lead to individual Blu-ray releases of the second, third and fourth series (seasons) of the 2005 show? One time (pun intended) will tell. For now, passionate fans (similar to Gerard Groves!) who have longed to own the memorable Christopher Eccleston season on Blu-ray Disc, will have their chance at an affordable price. Fantastic!
A second half-season set aimed at budget-concious casual fans is coming soon
In early February, we posted an article explaining about how BBC Home Entertainment was trying to go back and release half-season sets of all the "NuWho" seasons, and why, and relayed that the BBC and their North American distributor, Warner Home Video, were planning a March 15th release of Doctor Who - The 5th Series, Part 1 on DVD as part of those efforts. That did indeed come out this past Tuesday...but what about the second half of that season?
The latter half of Matt Smith's initial season as the 11th Doctor is coming to DVD as "Doctor Who - The 5th Series, Part 2" soon, as an Amazon.com pre-order entry shows. On the other hand, it doesn't provide an actual release date at that listing: it merely says, "This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives."
But Doctor Who - The 5th Series, Part 2 is ALSO listed for pre-order at Amazon's Canadian branch, and Amazon.ca's pre-order listing shows a specific release date of July 19th. Is that correct? We're not sure...Amazon.ca's listing also says this will be a Blu-ray release, and we're rather certain that it's a DVD, not a Blu-ray.
The listings show that the cost will be $19.96 SRP in the United States, and CA$23.99 SRP in Canada. Package art and other details aren't available yet. Stay tuned for updates, as more info becomes available!
UPDATE: Almost immediately after we posted this report, Amazon.com's listing was updated to display the same July 19th street date for this title as the Amazon.ca listing shows. Timing is everything. Especially when it's wibbly-wobbly...
After six incredible seasons at the helm, the multi-award winning Steven Moffat has decided to step down as the lead writer and executive producer of Doctor Who.
Steven took over the reins on Season 5 in 2010 and during his tenure the show has become a truly global success. He has been responsible for introducing the Eleventh and the Twelfth Doctors in Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi; as well as two companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) and iconic characters and monsters including River Song (Alex Kingston), Missy (Michelle Gomez), Rory Pond (Arthur Darvill) and the terrifying Weeping Angels. Plus, the smash hit 50th Anniversary special in 2013 which saw fans around the world celebrate the world’s longest running sci-fi series with the Doctors, Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt battling the deadly Daleks in a feature length episode. Steven’s final season will air on BBC AMERICA and BBC One in Spring 2017 and there will be a Christmas Special in 2016.
Steven Moffat says: “Feels odd to be talking about leaving when I’m just starting work on the scripts for season 10, but the fact is my timey-wimey is running out. While Chris is doing his last run of Broadchurch, I’ll be finishing up on the best job in the universe and keeping the TARDIS warm for him. It took a lot of gin and tonic to talk him into this, but I am beyond delighted that one of the true stars of British Television drama will be taking the Time Lord even further into the future. At the start of season 11, Chris Chibnall will become the new showrunner of Doctor Who. And I will be thrown in a skip.”
Like Steven, Chris Chibnall is also a lifelong Doctor Who fan and a multi-award winning writer and executive producer. He has most recently achieved huge success with the triple BAFTA winning hit series Broadchurch. His other credits include BAFTA nominated The Great Train Robbery, United, Law & Order: UK, Life on Mars and Torchwood. Chris Chibnall’s debut season will launch in 2018.
Chris Chibnall, new Head Writer and Executive Producer: “Doctor Who is the ultimate BBC program: bold, unique, vastly entertaining, and adored all around the world. So it’s a privilege and a joy to be the next curator of this funny, scary and emotional family drama. I’ve loved Doctor Who since I was four years old, and I’m relishing the thought of working with the exceptional team at BBC Wales to create new characters, creatures and worlds for the Doctor to explore. Steven’s achieved the impossible by continually expanding Doctor Who’s creative ambition, while growing its global popularity. He’s been a dazzling and daring showrunner, and hearing his plans and stories for 2017, it’s clear he’ll be going out with a bang. Just to make my life difficult.”
Charlotte Moore, Controller, BBC One says: “I want to thank Steven Moffat for everything he has given Doctor Who – I’ve loved working with him, he is an absolute genius and has brought fans all over the world such joy. I will be very sad to see him leave the show but I can’t wait to see what he will deliver in his last ever series next year with a brand new companion. I have decided to schedule Steven’s big finale series in Spring 2017 to bring the nation together for what will be a huge event on the channel. 2016 is spoilt with national moments including the Euros and Olympics and I want to hold something big back for 2017 – I promise it will be worth the wait! I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Chris Chibnall, a wonderfully talented writer who I know will bring something very special to the hit series.”
Polly Hill, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning says: “Like Charlotte I would like to thank Steven for his brilliance, which has made Doctor Who a global hit under his tenure. Chris Chibnall is the perfect successor to take over the reins of this incredible show, so I am delighted that his love for Doctor Who has made it impossible for him to resist! Chris is an incredible writer and his vision and passion for Doctor Who gives it an exciting future and promises to be a real treat for Doctor Who fans across the world.”

The 2nd Doctor's adventure comes to DVD in USA/Canada on March 1st

The TARDIS lands in the lost city of Atlantis, where the crazed Professor Zaroff has convinced the Atlanteans that he can raise their city from beneath the sea. But the Doctor (Patrick Troughton) discovers the terrible truth behind Zaroff's plan: he intends to destroy the entire planet. With the doomsday clock ticking, the Doctor and his companions must battle to prevent the apocalypse...
Our most recent update about the North American release of Doctor Who - Story #032: The Underwater Menace - posted in early December - was to tell you that the release date for this title in the USA and Canada appeared to have been finalized at March 1st . That continues to be the date, much to the relief of this fan of classic Who (me); we've waited quite long enough!
Now the folks at BBC Home Entertainment have released a "back of the box" description for the item, quoted above (in italics), and a first look at the package art for this long-awaited DVD set (see below). It's a single-disc release, priced at $24.98 SRP. There were several extras included as bonus materials on the UK version of the title, and while it's expected that those will be included on the American release as well, the BBC hasn't confirmed that for certain yet. So in an abundance of caution, we're holding off on listing those; stay tuned for updates!

Season Debut is Series’ Biggest Ever Among Adults 18-49
“Doctor Who” Ranks Among Top 10 Returning Cable Drama Premieres This Season Among Adults 18-49
“Doctor Who” is The #1 Social Drama of The Week
New York – September 21, 2015 – BBC AMERICA’s Doctor Who rang in season 9 with a bang, delivering double digit growth from season 8 across all key demos in live plus same day ratings. The premiere episode ranks as Doctor Who’s biggest season premiere ever in the Adult 18-49 demo, which nearly doubled the season 8 average. The season debut also saw increased social engagement versus last season’s premiere, and reigned as the most social drama of the night and week leading into the premiere.
“Doctor Who is unlike anything else on television, a storied franchise that is as fresh and contemporary as ever, with brilliant writing and superb performances,” said Sarah Barnett, President of BBC AMERICA. “We couldn’t be more thrilled that new and returning Doctor Who fans tuned into the live premiere in record numbers and we look forward to bringing more of the Doctor to this passionate audience.”
Live + Same Day Ratings Highlights*:
The premiere telecast delivered 2 million total viewers and 1.1 million Adults 18-49. Among A18-49, Doctor Who propelled BBC AMERICA to #3 in its timeslot, out-delivering the big 4 broadcast networks and ranking only behind college football on ESPN and the finale of Sábado Gigante on Univision.
In the A18-49 demo, Doctor Who is now one of just 14 dramas on TV this season to show any growth from its prior season premiere (out of 100+ returning dramas).
The A18-49 audience ranks as Doctor Who’s biggest season premiere ever on BBC AMERICA, nearly doubling the S8 average (+95%). In the demo, episode 901 ranks among the top 10 returning cable drama premieres this season, beating Homeland, Suits and The Strain, among others.
All tracked demos showed increases from the season 8 average with the most significant increases seen among the younger demos, most notably P12-24 (+186%) and P18-34 (+161%).
The episode reigned as the #1 most social drama of the night based on ListenFirst’s Digital Audience Ratings for Television. It was the #1 TV brand on Tumblr, the #1 drama on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and the #2 drama on Instagram, following The Walking Dead. It was also the #1 most social drama of the week.
Episode 901 garnered larger social engagement than the most recent season premieres of Scandal, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, True Detective, Outlander, Glee, and The Flash, among others.
In the newest season of Doctor Who, the Doctor and Clara embark on reckless adventures in all of space and time. In Peter Capaldi’s second season at the helm of the TARDIS, the series sees the Doctor and Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) going on a journey that takes them to deadly alien planets, creepy underwater bases, Viking villages, a global Zygon uprising, and through hidden alien dens, to the very end of time itself.
Meeting monsters old and new, the Doctor will come face to face with Missy (Michelle Gomez), a city of Daleks, deadly mercenaries called the Mire, terrifying ghosts and more.
Previously announced and taking up a guest role in the new season will be Maisie Williams, having already achieved global success for her role as Arya Stark in Game of Thrones. Michelle Gomez (Missy) returns to plague the Doctor and Clara in the season opener, and UNIT are back with Jemma Redgrave (Kate Stewart) and Ingrid Oliver (Osgood) returning following their popular entrance last season. Also confirmed as guest cast in the new season are Reece Shearsmith, Rebecca Front, Rufus Hound, Paul Kaye, Elaine Tan, Neet Mohan, Bethany Black, Paul Courtenay Hyu, Joivan Wade and Sophie Stone.
The new season has been written by lead writer Steven Moffat, Toby Whithouse, Jamie Mathieson, Peter Harness, Mark Gatiss, and new writers to Doctor Who – Sarah Dollard and Catherine Tregenna; directed by Hettie Macdonald, Daniel O’Hara, Ed Bazalgette, Daniel Nettheim, Justin Molotnikov, Rachel Talalay; and produced by Tracie Simpson, Derek Ritchie, Nikki Wilson and Peter Bennett. Doctor Who is a BBC Cymru Wales production for BBC One, co-produced with BBC AMERICA.

tvshowsondvd Doctor Who - Early Blu-ray
and DVD Cover Art Found for 'The 9th Series,
Part 1'
Not officially announced by the BBC yet, but
Amazon shows a November 3rd street date
A few weeks back we reported that a pair of
pre-order listings at Amazon.com was showing off
a November 3rd availability date for Doctor Who
- The 9th Series, Part 1 on both Blu-ray Disc
and standard DVD. Those listings have now been
updated to show the package art for both of
these 2-disc set, and we're passing those images
along to you today. Please keep in mind,
however, that these may not be finalized yet,
and could be subject to change:
From
tvshowsondvd Doctor Who - Further
Developments About the 'Dark Water/Death In
Heaven' 3DBD
3D Blu-ray release is apparently timed to come
out directly after a VERY brief theatrical
engagement
Two weeks ago we had the scoop that on September
22nd, BBC Home Entertainment will release a 3D
Blu-ray Disc ("3DBD") of Doctor Who - Dark
Water/Death In Heaven. Our source in Canada's
home video industry is still maintaining this
information, with no changes or additions so
far. But this past Tuesday it became clear that
this item is a quick follow-up to a theatrical
event involving the same two episodes. Here's a
reminder of those episodes, which together
closed out the 8th season of the current program
(which is Peter Capaldi's first season as the
12th Doctor):
"Dark Water" -In the mysterious world of the
Nethersphere, plans have been drawn. Missy is
about to come face to face with the Doctor, and
an impossible choice is looming... 'Death is not
an end', promises the sinister organisation
known only as 3W - but, as the Doctor and Clara
discover, they might wish it was.
"Death in Heaven" -With Cybermen on the streets
of London, old friends unite against old enemies
and the Doctor takes to the air in a startling
new role. Can the mighty UNIT contain Missy? As
the Doctor faces his greatest challenge,
sacrifices must be made before the day is won.
A few days ago, BBC Worldwide's North America
division, in conjunction with Fathom Events,
announced that they would bring these episodes
to selected theaters on Tuesday, September 15th
and Wednesday, September 16th, at 7:30 PM local
time for each theater, for a VERY limited
theatrical engagement. They will be presented in
RealD 3D, and in Dolby Atmos sound (where
available). There will also be a pair of
exclusive extras:
"The event will feature The Doctor's Meditation
- a special prequel scene to the first episode
of season nine - and an exclusive interview with
DOCTOR WHO stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna
Coleman, hosted by Wil Wheaton (Big Bang Theory,
Star Trek: Nemesis), in addition to the two-part
season eight finale."
If you're interested in attending, you can
purchase tickets beginning today, July 31st,
from FathomEvents.com. It may not be available
local to you, however (for example, there are no
engagements scheduled at all in the city where I
live).
Note that the "extras" for this theatrical
showing include a prequel scene to the beginning
of Doctor Who's ninth season...which premieres
on BBC America the following Saturday, September
19th. And in which the BBC America trailer
clearly shows the return of "Missy"...as well as
other fun stuff throughout the season, including
a guest appearance by Game of Thrones star
Maisie Williams ("Arya Stark"). There's no word
if the 3D Blu-ray release of Doctor Who - Dark
Water/Death In Heaven the following Tuesday will
contain either of these extras. It's probable,
however, that the BBC would save those for the
eventual Season 9 set.
Again, the 3DBD release for Dark Water/Death In
Heaven still hasn't been formally announced by
BBC Home Entertainment as of this writing, but
please stay tuned for updates!

The Doctor and River Song Reunite For A Spectacular Christmas!
Published: September 2, 2015
Alex Kingston returns for the Doctor Who Christmas Special on BBC AMERICA
New York – September 2, 2015 – Announced today, Alex Kingston returns to reclaim her role as Professor River Song for the highly anticipated 2015 Doctor Who Christmas special, premiering on Christmas Day on BBC AMERICA.
It’s Christmas Day in the future and the TARDIS is parked on a snowy village street, covered in icicles, awaiting its next adventure. Time traveller River Song meets her husband’s new incarnation, in the form of Peter Capaldi, for the first time this Christmas.
Filming the eleventh Doctor Who Christmas special starts this week and is written by lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, produced by Nikki Wilson and directed by Douglas Mackinnon (Doctor Who, Sherlock).
River Song made her first Doctor Who appearance in 2008 in Silence in the Library and Forest of the Dead and has appeared in 15 episodes to date.
Award-winning Alex Kingston comments on her reappearance:
“To be honest, I did not know whether River would ever return to the show, but here she is, back with the Doctor for the Christmas special. Steven Moffat is on glittering form, giving us an episode filled with humor and surprise guest castings. I met Peter for the first time at Monday’s read-through, we had a laugh, and I am now excited and ready to start filming with him and the Doctor Who team. Christmas in September?, why not!”
Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer adds:
“Another Christmas, another special for Doctor Who – and what could be more special than the return of Alex Kingston as Professor River Song. The last time the Doctor saw her she was a ghost. The first time he met her, she died. So how can he be seeing her again? As ever, with the most complicated relationship in the universe, it’s a matter of time …”
The witty line-up of guest cast joining Alex for a magical adventure on the TARDIS will be announced over the coming months.
The BBC Cymru Wales produced drama will return to BBC AMERICA on Saturday, September 19 with a 12 episode season, followed by the Christmas special on Friday, December 25.

Doctor Who - Contents List Found for the
Upcoming 2-DVD Set for 'The Cybermen'
New Who episodes star (with bonus classic
episodes) on this mid-May release
3/20/2015 See the beginnings of the terrifying
Cybermen in this thrilling Doctor Who
compilation. Few villains in the fantastical
world of Doctor Who spark such terror as the
dreaded Cybermen - the murderous cyborgs with a
bone chilling lack of emotion. This special
release features iconic episodes of both the new
and classic series showcasing the genesis and
increasingly frightful transformations of these
creatures, plus all new bonus content tying
together the history of these fan favorite
monsters.
BBC Home Entertainment has provided the above
description of their upcoming May 19th release
of Doctor Who - The Cybermen on DVD. As we first
reported a few weeks ago, this will be a 2-disc
set priced at $24.98 SRP (cost in Canada will be
CA$30.98 SRP). It will be available in DVD only,
with no Blu-ray format version available.
While neither the BBC nor their distributors at
Warner Home Video have provided a specific list
of the contents for this title, Steve Manfred
has posted over in his Doctor Who DVD FAQ the
following list of included material:
•"Army of Ghosts" (Part 1) and "Doomsday" (Part
2), starring David Tennant as the 10th Doctor
(Season 2)
•"Closing Time," starring Matt Smith as the 11th
Doctor (Season 6)
•"Nightmare in Silver," starring Matt Smith as
the 11th Doctor (Season 7)
•"Dark Water" (Part 1) and "Death in Heaven"
(Part 2),
starring Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor
(Season 8)
•Bonus: "Story #122: Earthshock," starring Peter
Davison as the 5th Doctor
•Bonus: "Cybermen Origins" Featurette: A New
Documentary chronicling the creation of the
dreaded monsters (20 minutes)
Our thanks to the studio for what information
they did provide, and for the finalized high-res
3D package art seen below. Our thanks to one of
our readers, "Victor," for tipping us off this
morning about Steve's info. Steve also says that
there may be a "The Daleks" release later this
year. We haven't received studio confirmation of
that, nor of the above contents list, but if we
find out anything different then we'll post an
update as soon as we're able to. Stay tuned!
I just read this on Wikipedia (Yay!): In April
2015, Steven Moffat confirmed that Doctor Who
would run for at least another five years,
extending the show until 2020.
The show returns in Fall 2015.
Doctor Who - Everybody Look Out! 'The Cybermen'
Are Invading North America!
2-DVD set from BBC/Warner is coming in May,
according to Amazon
BBC Home Entertainment hasn't announced it yet,
nor has distributor Warner Home Video, but
Amazon.com's pre-order listing shows that on May
19th BBC/Warner will release Doctor Who - The
Cybermen on DVD. As an unannounced title, there
isn't any content information available from the
studio at the time of this writing. And Amazon's
entry doesn't show what the "main" content is
going to be...but it does list a pair of
"Special Features" (extras):
Earthshock: Episodes 1-4. (4x25)
Cybermen Origins: A New Documentary chronicling
the creation of the dreaded monsters (1x20)
The 5th Doctor (Peter Davison) story arc named
there, Doctor Who - Story #122: Earthshock, has
been available on DVD in North America since
2004. And the cover art shown at Amazon (which
we have for you, below) features key artwork
that is taken from the Cybermen's most recent
appearance, with the 12th Doctor (Peter Capaldi)
in the two-part finale for the 8th series
(season) of the 2005 program. So it's a safe
guess that content from both the original and
new shows will be on board. But that's just a
guess.
Price for this 2-DVD set (no Blu-ray versions
have been indicated, at least not yet...and
possibly not at all) is $24.98 SRP, and you can
pre-order it from Amazon at a discount. There
was a U.K. release on DVD about 5 or 6 years
ago, The Cybermen Collection, containing the
first four episodes from the re-introduction of
the Cybermen in the new program...but it's a
safe bet that the content will be different for
the North American release of the similar title.
It's also a safe bet that the content will all
be episodes previously available on DVD,
excepting for the "all-new bonus material"
mentioned in the banner across the top of the
box front. I suppose we'll have to wait to find
out, since we don't have a TARDIS handy to fly.
Stay tuned!

Jane Adventures: The Death of the Doctor.
Doctor Who at the Proms 2013 - It's always a
thrilling night when the BBC's annual classical
music festival, the Proms, features the music of
Doctor Who. Hosted by none other than the 11th
Doctor himself, Matt Smith, plus companion Clara
(Jenna Coleman) and a fantastic assortment of
special guests (and monsters), Murry Gold's

better than in this live concert, which was a
highlight of the build-up to Doctor Who's 50th
Anniversary.
The Day of the Doctor: From Script to Screen -
Witness the initial table read for Doctor Who's
legendary 50th Annivesary episode, The Day of
the Doctor, and then see the episode come to

Smith, David Tennant, Steven Moffat and others
as well as footage from the filming. It's an
exciting look inside the process of bringing
Doctor Who to life.
The Five Doctors Reboot - In the build-up to
Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary, rumors were
swirling wildly about which former Doctors would
be featured in the anniversary episode itself.

Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy, Colin Baker, and
Paul McGann poke fun at the mystery and
themselves in hysterical fashion. With cameos
from Matt Smith, David Tennant, Jenna Coleman,
Steven Moffat, Russell T. Davies and others.
Doctor Who: The Ultimate Guide - Eleventh Doctor
Matt Smith and companion Clara (Jenna Coleman)
introduce this insightful look back at the
remarkable 50-year history of Doctor Who,
featuring interviews with the cast and the
people behind the scenes, past and present, plus
a host of celebrity fans. Doctor Who: The
Ultimate Guide delves deep into the history of
the Doctor, profiling his many incarnations and
charting the progression of his character from
his old-fashioned, black and white origins to
his more complex, many-layered, modern-day
persona and the multi-faceted menaces he has
faced through the years. This is the defining
documentary of Doctor Who, the perfect way to
celebrate a rich 50-year old marvel.
The Sarah Jane Adventures: The Death of the
Doctor - The Eleventh Doctor makes a special
appearance in the spin-off series The Sarah Jane
Adventures. In the two part special written by

another of the Doctor's former companions, Jo
Grant (Katy Manning), as they investigate the
fate of the Doctor at his own funeral. Things
get more complicated when they're joined by the

so-called "Religious Freedom Restoration Act."
This bill is bad for business, bad for the LGBT
community and bad for all Arizonans.
Religious groups have a long established first
amendment ability to operate according to their
own beliefs. However, when individuals or
businesses go out into the commercial market,
they must abide by legal non-discrimination
provisions.
Instead of protecting religious liberty, this
bill gives license for discrimination to run
rampant across the state.
I stand with all Arizonans, and against this
hateful and discriminatory bill.

The BBC has announced a raft of programmes to mark the
50th anniversary of the first episode of Doctor Who.
A 75-minute special episode called The Day Of The Doctor
will star the soon-to-leave Matt Smith and David
Tennant.
Smith said: "Hope you all enjoy. There's lots more
coming your way."
Other highlights include a BBC Two lecture by Professor
Brian Cox on the science behind the hit show and the
drama An Adventure In Space and Time, written by Mark
Gatiss.
The one-off programme stars David Bradley - known to
millions for his role as Filch in the Harry Potter films
- as William Hartnell, who played the first Doctor in
1963.
BBC Two's flagship arts programme The Culture Show is to
present Me, You and Doctor Who, with lifelong fan
Matthew Sweet exploring the cultural significance of the
BBC's longest running TV drama.
A 90-minute documentary on BBC Radio 2 will ask "Who Is
The Doctor?" - using newly-recorded interviews and
exclusive archive material to find an answer.
For those less familiar with the show, Doctor Who: The
Ultimate Guide will provide a handy primer.
Danny Cohen, BBC director of television, said: "It's an
astonishing achievement for a drama to reach its 50th
anniversary.
"I'd like to thank every person - on both sides of the
camera - who has been involved with its creative journey
over so many years."

Forces in 50th
Anniversary Poster In anticipation of "The Day of the Doctor," BBC America
releases the first key art for the Nov. 23 special. Matt Smith's days as
Doctor Who may be numbered -- but before he goes, he'll topline one of the
biggest events in the sci-fi series' history.
The Day of the Doctor, the BBC drama's 50th anniversary special,
premieres in the U.K. and the U.S. on Nov. 23. Trailers for the special
have been screened at Comic-Con and for members of the media, but for
the public, key art released Tuesday provides a first look at the
episode.
Smith, joined by previous Doctor David Tennant, looks deadly serious
above an image of guest John Hurt emerging from an explosive collage of
significant images to the show's past. And it's Hurt, as Smith recently
noted, who steals most of the scenes."David and I would be climbing the
walls, and then John just flicks his eyes and the camera goes, 'Oh yeah,
let's watch John Hurt,'" Smith told reporters during July's Television
Critics Association summer press tour. Smith's Doctor Who successor was
recently revealed to be The Thick of It actor Peter Capaldi. He'll take
over the role at the conclusion of this year's Christmas special.

- 'Doctor Who': Matt Smith's Farewell Tour Continues at TCA

Doctor Who: Series 6, Part 1, a two-disc DVD and Blu-ray set, contains the first seven episodes along with two Monster files, "The Gangers" and "The Silence," two of the Doctor's most challenging opponents.
In the season opener, "The Impossible Astronaut," four envelopes are received, numbered 2, 3 and 4, each containing a date, time and map reference, unsigned, but in TARDIS blue. Who sent them? And who received the missing number one? This strange summons reunites the Doctor (Smith), Amy (Gillan), Rory (Darvill) and River Song (Kingston) in the middle of the Utah desert and unveils a terrible secret the Doctor's friends must never reveal to him. 'Space 1969' is their only clue, as their quest lands them - quite literally - in the Oval Office, where they are enlisted by President Nixon himself to assist enigmatic former-FBI agent Canton (Mark Sheppard) in saving a terrified little girl from a mysterious spaceman.
Following the two-parter, the Doctor, Amy and Rory journey on the high seas of 1696 aboard Avery's (Bonneville) pirate ship to solve the mystery of the Siren (Cole). In a bubble universe at the very edge of reality, the Doctor meets an old friend with a new face, and in a monastery on a remote island in the near future, an industrial accident takes on a terrible human shape. And waiting for them, at the end of all this, is the battle of Demon's Run, and the Doctor's darkest hour. Can even the truth about River Song save the Time Lord's soul? Only two things are certain. Silence will fall. And a good man is going to die...SHARE TO UNLOCK EXCLUSIVE "TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY" VIDEO TO BE SHOWN AT COMIC-CON PANEL
