The Toys That Made Us: Seasons 1 & 2 DVD cover

The Toys That Made Us: Seasons 1 & 2

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 5/1/19

I really enjoyed watching this set. I hadn't seen it when it came out on Netflix, so it was nice to have the DVD to catch up. I grew up poor, so I didn't have most of these toys. I really wanted a Barbie doll when I was a child (in the 1960's), but I never got one. I got a cheap knockoff that my brother brought me. It was Hawaiian and had brown skin and hair. I did love it, but I knew it wasn't Barbie! I'm sure that some other kid I knew had a Barbie, or I saw the commercials on TV.  I loved hearing all about Barbie's history.

I was also a huge Star Trek and Star Star Wars fan, so I enjoyed hearing about those toys as well. I've collected many figures and other collectibles for both of those. I even learned some new things about them that I didn't know.  I don't watch very many non-fiction shows, but this one was well worth watching.

The whole series is interesting, no matter which toys you liked or when you grew up. I hope they make more of the series.  This DVD set would definitely be a great set for anyone of any age, especially those who grew up in the 60's through 80's.

There weren't many bonus features, but I didn't really expect them with this small set. I guess if you buy it in a store, you get the bonus toy. I didn't get that toy, either! I guess I'll just have to go out and buy my own.
