Midnight Stallion

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 3/3/13

You probably have to be a kid or a teenaged girl to like this one. It is very mediocre. I wanted to like it because of Kris Kristofferson being in it, but it was just so predictable.

Kristofferson plays a farmer who is losing his ranch. He is good at raising horses, but hard times have forced him to sell it off. His wife tries to save the farm, but it doesn't work.  His daughter falls in love with this black horse that has appeared on their land. They decide to enter the horse in a local horse race to try to win the prize money, which will save their land. Guess what happens!

Kristofferson does a fine job, but the woman playing his wife looks more like his daughter than his wife, and the girl playing his teen daughter seems more like his granddaughter. He is too old to be playing this part, basically. Or else they should have explained why this old coot is with someone like her.

The "Making of" Feature was actually better than the movie itself. Still, it was good to have a feature of any kind.

As they struggle to find new ways to keep their farm from foreclosure, their daughter Megan (Ferland) discovers a mysterious, wild stallion in a nearby meadow. Quickly forming a bond with the horse, Megan and her family soon realize that this fast and free companion could be the answer to their prayers.
