I was pleasantly surprised to find that this sitcom is pretty
funny and not dumbed-down for kids. I guess they have finally figured out that
the adults sitting in the room with their kids want to laugh, too. It's
not Seinfeld or anything, but it did make me chuckle. It is good for
families, and kids, and people don't like "naughty" jokes.
If you miss shows from the 80's and 90's like Blossom, Who's the
Boss, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, etc., then you should be happy to watch this one.
It is as good, if not better, than those shows.
The show stars Joey Lawrence (who played Joey in "Blossom") and
Melissa Joan Hart (star of "Sabrina the Teenaged Witch"). Melissa is a
single council woman who has suddenly become mom to two teenagers, Lennox and
Ryder, after her brother and sister-in-law go to jail. She is having a hard time
juggling everything, so she advertises for a nanny. Instead, she ends up hiring
Joe, an out-of-work commodities trader who used to work for her brother. She
takes pity on him, and he kind of worms her way into her life.
It's very similar to "Who's the Boss?" in many ways. She dresses
very well, though (in fact, her dresses are so chic that it's almost
distracting. I kept wondering whether she was skimming from the city's budget to
pay for them!), to show off her beautiful body. For some reason, Joey shaved his
head. It's a shame, because he had beautiful hair. Even if he was losing it, I
think that would look better than the shaved look. I guess they want him to look
more goofy for the humor in it.
Anyway, it's a good show and the DVD is worth watching. My only
complain is there is no closed-captioning. Don't they think that the deaf would
enjoy the show? I don't know...it made it hard for me to enjoy because I am used
to using the closed-captioning, especially when I can't understand what they
said. They rush through the words a lot on this show, so that annoyed me.
There are some fun extras where Joey talks about what he would
do in certain situations. There's also a blooper reel and a promo for the second
half of the season. I don't like when they put only half a season on a DVD. I
wish companies would stop doing that. Hey, guys, we know that you are just
trying to get us to spend more money!! Knock it off. This show is not "Battlestar
Galactica" so it probably will just mean people don't buy the second half. Got
it?
