DVD TV Show Reviews
I have to admit a few things before reviewing this show's DVD. First of
all, I'm not a man! :) So, I'm not really the audience they're aiming for.
Secondly, the few times I've seen this show before, I changed the channel, or
(if my husband was watching it), groaned and left the room.
This is because the show celebrates all of the stereotypes about men: that
they're sloppy, have no manners, only care about women as sex objects, yada yada
yada. Let's hope most men are not like that. But they do all have
these baser instincts (and so do women). The show is sort of like Saturday
Night Live but aimed at 13-year-olds, or drunk college students that don't like
to think too much.
The two hosts, Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Carolla, who have since gone on to
bigger and perhaps better things, have a live studio audience. The
audience drinks beer, and so do the hosts. I'm guessing it's a lot funnier
live, for this reason. They have big-breasted bimbos with bikinis or pj's
on who dance around with vacant smiles, or jump up and down on trampolines.
The women, who presumably need the money, are called "Juggies". You can
probably guess why...
The hosts do several skits, some of which are actually clever and funny.
They are not as crude as Howard Stern or even SNL on a bad day. They are
also not as funny as either, for the most part. It's very basic humor that
celebrates guys being guys, kind of like "Home Improvement", but funnier and
without as many power tools and annoying grunts.
The show is about girls taking off their clothes, farting, chugging beer,
breasts, pot, gadgets, blowjobs, and other topics that appear in Playboy
magazine, but here seen with an irreverence. It's hard to be insulted by the
humor, even though it's degrading women (and probably men), because it doesn't
take itself seriously. There may be a few jokes teasing women about how
they only go to the mall, eat bon-bons, or get manicures, but most of the jokes
are about guys and their pursuits.
This 6 disc box set includes never-before-seen footage outtakes and, of
course, even more outtakes of girls jumping on trampolines!!!
I'm not really sure why anyone would want to buy the DVD's, but the show was
very popular. It was Comedy Central's second highest rated show behind
South Park. Not only was it on for a few years, but there were several imitation
shows on FX and Spiketv (that were not as funny). So I guess it has a lot
of fans out there that may want to watch it over and over. I just don't
want to meet those guys!
