Longmire: The Complete Third Season

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 3/1/15

"Longmire" has been one of my favorite shows since it first aired. It reminds me of an old-fashioned western, in some respects. Especially the character of Walt, who's the strong, silent type that was once common in old westerns. He also reminds me a little of Lee Majors.

The show has great characters and wonderful actors playing them. The writing is really good. Also, it's a beautifully filmed show. The first season was all about introducing the characters and setting. The second season was about peeling back the layers of the mysteries, especially about Walt's wife's death.

This third season is all about Walt and the rest trying to figure out who killed Walt's wife's murderer, and other mysteries that cropped up in relation to that. The season finale is outstanding and left us with a great cliffhanger.

Thankfully, although the show was canceled by A&E, it's been picked up by Netflix for at least one more seasons!

The show had okay ratings, but most of the viewers were probably older, like myself, and TV networks prefer to have younger viewers. Also, the ratings did fall a bit. My guess is that some of the mystical Indian stuff may have put off some viewers. That mostly started in the second season, and then it increased in the third season. That "weirdness" may have been what did the show in. I don't really know, though. I'm just guessing.

To me, the show was really great all the way through. It's the characters and their relationships that are the best part of the show. The stories and mysteries are secondary, but they're really good, too.

You should definitely buy this DVD as well as the first two seasons. The DVD has only one feature, a behind-the-scenes feature all about this third season. It's really good, though, and lasts quite a while.
