I'd never heard of this series until Acorn sent me this
DVD. Guy Pearce is well known here as a movie actor in films
such as "L.A. Confidential" and "Memento". I didn't know
that he did Australian TV shows besides.
These are really more like mini-movies than TV shows.
Pearce plays a lawyer whose wife is killed, and then he
becomes a lowlife private eye (sort of). This set has 2
"episodes", "Bad Debts" and "Black Tide". There is
murder, political intrigue, explosions and much more.
They're very exciting.
The only bonus feature is a "behind the scenes" look at
the first one. I wish there were more, but it's very
interesting to watch. This is a good series and I look
forward to seeing more!

IRISH, SET 1
debuts as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on October 1, 2013
from Acorn, an
RLJ Entertainment, Inc.
(NASDAQ: RLJE) brand. In these two feature-length movies,
Jack is reeling in the wake of his
wife’s murder. The former lawyer has reinvented himself as a
part-time private investigator and debt collector with a
knack for getting into trouble. Broadcast in Australia on
ABC1 in Oct. 2012, the series made its North American debut
in July on Acorn TV; the first British TV focused streaming
service at
www.Acorn.TV. A ratings winner in the U.K. and
Australia, the series has two more feature-length
installments in the works. This combo set includes the DVD
and Blu-ray formats of the first two episodes: Bad Debts
and Black Tide, plus a 17-min. bonus
behind-the-scenes feature ($39.99,
AcornOnline.com). Jack
Irish is also available as a DVD
Single.
When an old client dies after leaving Jack
several frantic voicemails, the PI realizes he can’t outrun
or outdrink his past. Jack returns
to the world that took everything away from him—a seedy
place of lowlifes, corruption, violence, and retribution. In
these two feature-length mysteries, Bad Debts and
Black Tide, Pearce delivers a “mesmerizing” performance
(Daily Record), imbuing Jack
with world-weary gruffness and a dash of dark humor. As much
as he tries to break away, the underworld is where he
thrives—and the only place he can find redemption.
Called “a terrific writer; sharp, funny and ambitious”
by NPR’s Fresh Air from WHYY, crime writer Peter
Temple has won the Ned Kelly Award five times as well as the
Crime Writers’ Association’s Duncan Lawrie Dagger for best
crime novel. Text Publishing released Bad Debts,
Temple’s first Jack
Irish book, in the U.S. in August 2013 and will
publish all four Jack
Irish books by the end of 2014.
