Gunsmoke: The Complete Sixteenth Season
Review by Suzanne Lanoue
12/5/19 |
I used to watch this show growing up. My dad
loved it. For me, as a child, it was usually too serious. I
prefered lighter westerns like "Bonanza" or "Big Valley."
Season 16 is part of the later years of the show, after
Dennis Weaver left. The show went on for 20 years, which was
quite an accomplishment.
The ratings were still
pretty good in this season. We got to see all of the
favorites: Marshall Dillon, Miss Kitty and Doc, as well as
Festus and Newly. The stories are very good. I think modern
audiences would still enjoy them. Older people should love
them.
The fun of watching a lot of these old shows is
that they have great guest-stars that you might recognize
from movies or other shows.
There aren't a lot of
features, but they have two authors of books about
"Gunsmoke," Ben and Beckey, discussing the show, and this
season.
