This is a very violent show, and it's not cartoon
violence, either. It's very real-seeming violence. I watched
some of the first season, and I did enjoy it, but then I
fell behind on watching it and never caught up.
I'm glad to get the 2nd season DVD, and it was not hard to
step right back in with the show. It's still a good show,
with fabulous writing, action, and acting. The cast,
especially Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy, are always really
good.
The only thing that bothers me about the show is that it's
completely unrealistic. We're expected to believe that
somehow this professor is not only a serial killer but
inspires others to kill for him. First of all, there are not
many people who are good cult leaders, and when they do
exist, they don't last very long. Look at Jim Jones, Manson
or that Waco guy. Their followers either end up turning on
them, or dead, or captured by the police (and the same with
the cult leader). Normal, intelligent people don't just
become killers for no reason, nor do they follow some other
guy that they barely know. Most criminals are selfish and
greedy, and in it for themselves, and they tend to be stupid
and slip easily. TV often makes the police or the criminals
seem a lot smarter and slicker than they are in real life,
so we're used to that, but this show just goes way too far.
So I have trouble watching it because it's too unrealistic.
As an action show, it does a great job, so if you can get
past the unrealism, you can just sit back and enjoy the
ride. Like "24", it has tons of action and moves quickly
from one shocking thing to another.
The DVD has quite a few great extras. There are many behind
the scenes features for several of the episodes, plus one
about the show's director, and one about the cult of Joe
Carroll, and more. Any fan of the show should enjoy this
disk.
Check it out if you like a fun thrill ride but don't mind
the violence.

up with a healthy and healed Ryan Hardy (Bacon) a year
after his pursuit of serial killer Joe Carroll (Purefoy),
