DVD TV Show Reviews
I watched this movie when it first came out years ago. I remember thinking
that, while it didn't totally speak to my own high school experience, they did
get the feel of high school kids in the 1970's down quite well. I had forgotten
until that point how much everyone said "man", for instance.
I suppose this is more of a drama than a comedy, but it's not very
dramatic...it's not too funny, so I wouldn't call it a comedy, either. It
just is. The movie is about one group of kids on the last day of school in
1976. The seniors have a tradition of humiliating or beating the incoming
Freshman. They didn't have this tradition at my school, thankfully.
The actors do a great job of being laid-back 70's high school students who
are pondering what they think are the important questions of life and wondering
what the heck they will do in the future, as they drink beer, smoke pot, and try
to have sex. It's got less plot and a lot fewer jokes than "Fast Times at
Ridgemont High", but it's an interesting movie to watch nonetheless.
There are not many extras with the movie, which I found disappointing.
