Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove: Season 1 DVD cover

Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove: Season 1

 Review by Suzanne Lanoue 7/10/14

I've wanted to watch this show since it came out, mainly because of Dylan Neal, who's one of my favorite actors.  I'm glad that it came out on DVD so I could finally watch it! It's a nice little show about some people in a small town in Washington state. It's a romantic drama, like one of those Hallmark or Lifetime movies. Women and their characters rule here, and you're not going to see any sex or violence.  The scenery here is beautiful and it's really one of the characters of the show.

The show is not boring, even though it's not full of action and high drama. It's a little bit of a soap opera but not high strung or full of bed-hopping. It's one that people of all ages could enjoy, including your grandma.

Andie McDowell stars as a local judge, and Dylan Neal is the town's new newspaper editor. The show revolves around them and their families, and other people in the town.  This is the type of show where people sometimes kiss, and you don't really see them going to bed (it will fade out long before that). It's about family, and doing the right thing, and sticking together, and small town life.

Unlike most shows, they didn't end the season on a cliffhanger, but on a warm-hearted Christmas story. There are many other actors I like on this show, including Bruce Boxleitner, Elyse Levesque, Sebastian Spence, and Barbara Niven.

The show is based on books by Debbie Macomber. They've made other Hallmark movies based on her works, and she has a lot of fans.

The DVD only has one extra, a feature where the actors talk about the show. It's pretty short. I wish there were more! I look forward to the new season, though.  This DVD would make a great gift for anyone. You should really check it out!
