Review of "Council
of Dads"

airs Thursdays, 8/7c on NBC
I wanted to see this show because it looked interesting.
It was, but it went way too fast. Those who know me
and have read my reviews before understand that I often
complain about shows dragging on and being too slow. The
pilot of this show falls in the catagory of, if you blink,
you miss something important. It centers around the Perry
family, whose world is shaken when the father, Scott Perry
(Tom Everett Scott) is diagnosed with cancer. He's
worried about his five children growing up without him.
Scott tells his wife, Robin (Sarah Wayne Callies) that he's
going to set up a council of dads, which are three of his
closest friends, who share his values and know how he would
advise his children if he was still alive. The story is
based on the book of the same name by Bruce Feiler who
thought of the plan after his cancer diagnosis.
Once
I saw the pilot episode, I thought of one thing: "This Is
Us." However, the pace of the show is way too fast.
It needs to slow down a tiny bit so that people can get to
know the characters. I don't want to tell you what happens
in the pilot because you need to watch it yourself.
It's very good and worth watching. It didn't quite pull at
my heart like he "This Is Us" pilot did, but it's still a
good show with just a few problems to sort out. One is
that it needs to slow down a bit (as I said earlier).
Secondly, it needs to be a little less predictable. I could
see what was coming, unlike "This Is Us," which surprises me
every time I watch.
I give this show a 4 out of 5. I will keep watching when
it returns in its regular time slot April 30. I am hopeful
that it will improve.
