cast of Broke

Review of "Broke" 4/3/20 by Eva Diaz
airs Thursdays, 9:30/8:30c on CBS

It seems that comedies with people that have lost all their money are popular lately.  First came "Schitt's Creek," and then "Indebted".  Now  comes some competition for the show in the same timeslot as the latter. CBS has "Broke," a show about single mom Jackie (Pauley Perrette).  She's suprised when her estranged sister, Elizabeth (Natasha Leggero) and her husband Javier (Jaime Camil, "Jane the Virgin") drop by unexpectedly. Javier has lost all his trust fund money because of overspendingso they ask to live with Jackie and her son. Javier asks his father for money, but his dad sends him a text, telling him that it's time he gets a job and wishes him good luck. I normally don't laugh at the first episodes of shows because the cast often seems tense and nervous, and it takes them some time to gel together.  That is not the case the cast of this show.  They all have great chemistry together and are so funny.

The show is a mix of English and Spanish, like Jane the Virgin.  When the characters speak Spanish, there are subtitles in English. I think this show is wonderful during these uncertain times.  It privides a lot of laughter as well as many heartwarming moments, which is just what we need right now. I highly recommend you watch this show if you need a good laugh. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Pilot” – Jaime Camil and Pauley Perrette star in a new comedy about a single suburban mother, struggling to make ends meet, who finds her estranged sister and her sister’s outrageously wealthy husband in need of a place to live after the couple’s money dries up, on the series premiere of BROKE, Thursday, April 2 (9:30-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Jaime Camil, Pauley Perrette, Natasha Leggero, Izzy Diaz and Antonio Corbo star.

Jackie, a single suburban mother to Sammy, is shocked when her estranged sister, Elizabeth; her sister’s outrageously wealthy, big-hearted, Latin husband, Javier; and Javier’s fiercely loyal assistant/driver/friend, Luis, land on her doorstep in need of a place to live after Javier’s father cuts them off. Though class differences may separate the women, and the size of the house and the number of people living in it will test the limits of hospitality, the bond of extended family might be exactly what they need.
