Review of "Schooled"

airs Wednesdays, 8:30/7:30 on ABC
This show is a spinoff from "The Goldbergs," another sitcom that I really
don't like. In this one, a young woman named Lainey (AJ Michalka), in the 90's,
returns to teach in the high school where she was formerly a student.
I
didn't find it to be very funny. Also, they made a big deal about how the high
school coach, Mr. Mellor (Bryan Callen) objected to this one great player on his
team because he wants to wear long shorts and slam-dunk like Michael Jordan.
Trouble is, basketball players were dunking since the 1940's, so that made no
sense. If the writers can't even be bothered to check Wikipedia or some other
history for their facts, then why should we watch the show?
I found
Lainey (and the other teachers) to be kind of annoying. The show also stars Tim
Meadows (who is wasted here).
I should admit that I'm biased against most
high school TV shows because I was a teacher for a while. TV is not realistic in
general, but it's difficult to watch a show about your job when they get it so
completely wrong. You may find it funny, but I just didn't.
