This show is about the fictional New Amsterdam hospital, the nation's oldest public hospital. A new director arrives to try and make it the best hospital possible for its patients. Dr Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) arrives with the belief that just because New Amsterdam is a public hospital, it shouldn't have to sacrifice quality care for its patients. Dr. Goodwin has cancer and wants to do something good to leave a legacy before his death.

This show is a bit slow and needs a faster pace, but the acting is good. I think I will keep watching to see if the show's pace gets better. This show is heartwarming and makes you want to aspire to something better, but you have to suspend disbelief because a hospital like this only exists on television. I give this show a 4 out of 5 stars because it is worth watching .

“New Amsterdam” is inspired by Dr. Eric Manheimer’s memoir “Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital” and his fifteen years as Medical Director at the hospital.
The cast includes Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher and Tyler Labine.
