Review of "Family Reunion" 7/11/19 by Suzanne
airs now on Netflix

I was interested in watching this show because I've always been a fan of Tia Mowry since she starred with her sister Tamara in "Sister Sister." I was excited to see her in a new comedy series. "Family Reunion" is about former pro football star Moz (Anthony Alabi) and his new-agey wife Cocoa McKellan (Tia Mowry) who travel with their children to Columbus, Georgia from their home in Seattle, Washington for Moz's family reunion. Moz and Cocoa decide to move back to Georgia so that their children can get to know his family and learn about their culture.

The show is very well-written and funny, with a great cast. The stand-out to me is Loretta Devine, who plays the part of Amelia McKellan, otherwise known as M'Dear - Moz's mother - who often clashes with her son and his wife about the way they're raising her four grandchildren. Veteran actor Richard Roundtree is always a welcome addition to any cast. He plays M'Dear's pastor husband. Another veteran actor, Telma Hopkins, plays M'Dear's sister.  It's interesting to note that the show was created by Meg DeLoach, who also worked on "Family Matters" with Tompkins. She was also co-producer with another Netflix sitcom, "Fuller House."

This show is fun to watch because the cast seems like a real family dealing with situations that every family has to deal with today, as they struggle to raise their children and teach them values that are important to them. I think this show will make you laugh very much.  As you watch, you'll probably see situations that have happened in your family and that's what makes for good comedy. I give this show 5 out of 5 stars.

NETFLIX ANNOUNCES MULTI-GENERATIONAL LIVE ACTION FAMILY COMEDY SERIES FAMILY REUNION, CO-STARRING LORETTA DEVINE AND TIA MOWRY

Hollywood, Calif. — October 17, 2018 — Netflix today announced that Emmy Award winner Loretta Devine (Grey’s Anatomy, The Carmichael Show) and Tia Mowry (Sister, Sister, Instant Mom) are headlining the all-new, multi-generational live action comedy series Family Reunion, which recently kicked off production in Los Angeles. Family Reunion is executive produced and created by Meg DeLoatch (Fuller House, Eve) and directed by Eric Dean Seaton (Prince of Peoria, Modern Family).

In the Netflix original series, Mowry plays Cocoa McKellan, a free spirited mother from Seattle. When she and her former football-playing husband Moz and their four children travel from their home in the big city to the small town of Columbus, Georgia for the McKellan Family Reunion, they get to know an extended family they didn’t even realize they were missing. Devine plays the loving but strict matriarch of the family, M’Dear.

“We look forward to bringing families together to enjoy the hilarious and heartwarming stories of this multi-generational family living together and discovering the importance of connecting with their roots,” said Melissa Cobb, Vice President of Kids and Family at Netflix. “Meg DeLoatch has created a warm, funny and memorable extended family that we believe will resonate with audiences around the world and she has assembled an incredibly talented all-black writers room to authentically portray these characters and their journey.”
