9JKL cast

Review of "9JKL" 10/4/17 by Eva Diaz
airs Mondays, 8:30/7:30c on CBS.

I watched the commercials for this show, and it looked funny. It didn't disapppoint me! I think it's very funny. The cast is great, and they're all funny. The show is about an out-of-work actor, Josh Roberts (veteran comedy actor Mark Feuerstein, "Royal Pains"), whose once-popular television show about a blind policeman has reccently been canceled, so he's forced to move in to an apartment building where his parents, brother and sister-in-law live. Josh is also recently divorced and is trying to start his life over again. Josh's mom, Judy (Linda Lavin) and father Harry (Elliot Gould) live in the apartment next door, so his mother is constantly trying to set him up on dates or get involved in his life.

If you liked "Everybody Loves Raymond," you will probably like this show because it has the same kind of feel to it. If you've read any of my previous reviews on comedy shows, you know that I often don't laugh when I watch the first few episodes of sitcoms...it takes a while for casts to click and find their flow with each other. However, with this show, I laughed from start to finish. The cast is very believable as a family. The show is very well written. Classic comedy legends Linda Lavin and Elliot Gould steal the show as Josh's parents, but the entire cast is funny. I think this show will be a big hit for CBS and is worth watching if you need a good laugh. I give this show a 5 out of 5 stars, and I've already set it to record the series on my DVR. This is something I don't often do with new shows. This one is worth watching (or streaming if you miss an episode).

Liza Lapira, Matt Murray and Albert Tsai Star
“Pilot” – Mark Feuerstein stars as Josh Roberts, a new divorcé and actor between projects who moves home to New York to regroup, living in an apartment sandwiched between his doting, meddlesome parents on one side and his brother, sister-in-law and their new baby on the other, on the series premiere of the new comedy, 9JKJL, Monday, Oct. 2 (8:31-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Paul Feig guest stars as himself.

Josh’s well-intentioned mom, Judy, is so excited to have her beloved son home after his 12 years in Los Angeles that she bribes their doorman, Nick, to secretly call her every time Josh comes up the elevator, so she can greet him in the hallway. Also thrilled is Josh’s larger-than-life father, Harry, an attorney with no personal boundaries who’s eager to help Josh land his next starring role using his Hollywood “connections.” Teasing Josh about his return home is his competitive brother, Andrew, a successful surgeon who, unlike Josh, doesn’t have a problem saying “no” to their interfering parents; Andrew’s Harvard-educated pediatrician wife, Eve; and 12-year-old neighbor Ian from 5A, who hangs out in the lobby. As Josh’s family literally comes at him from both sides, he realizes he desperately needs to establish some ground rules, because his loving family is always going to be right there for him. Always.
