Review of "Throwing
Shade" 2/3/17 Airs Tuesdays 10:30/9:30c
on TVLAND
The best description I can think of for this show is a gay
"Daily Show." I hope no one is offended by that. There
are two hosts, and one of them is a gay man, Brian, and the
other is a straight woman, Erin. They both try to be
very funny and outrageous, sort of in-your-face, energetic
humor about today's issues. It definitely has a liberal
bent. I watched the first episode and thought they were
trying a little too hard. It was funny, but not hilarious.
Besides sitting at a desk and introducing "news" segments,
they also have skits with their friends (other comedians),
some of which will be very familiar to you (such as Will
Ferrell). Apparently they previously had a comedy podcast
and then web series, similar to this show.
Right now,
there are many political talk shows (too many, really),
especially ones from the left point of view. It'll be
interesting to see if this one is successful or not. I don't
think TVLAND has ever had a talk show before, let alone a
political comedy one.
Comedy is very subjective.
What's funny to one person may not be funny to another.
Check it out and see if you like it.
