Review of "Salvation" 7/15/17 by

Airs Wednesdays 9/8c on CBS
I love scifi shows. Unfortunately, many of them are about
the end of the world (I prefer shows that are more positive
or are about a better future). In these shows, either a
catastrophe is here (like alien invasions), or it's coming
(like an asteroid or some other calamity), or it's a
post-apocalyptic scenario. This one falls into the second
group. I like it a lot better than some of the other shows
I've seen like this, such as "The Event". The characters are
interesting and relatable, and the science sounds valid (I'm
no scientist, though). The first episode was enough to keep
me watching, which is somewhat rare because I have more than
enough to watch already.
There are four main
characters, at least in the first episode. British actor
Charlie Rowe plays Liam, a grad student who finds out that a
large asteroid is headed toward the Earth. Ian Anthony
Edwards ("Hawaii Five-0") plays Harris, the Deputy Secretary
of Defense. He's been secretly dating Pentagon Press
Secretary Grace (Jennifer Finnegan), a single mom. Santiago
Cabrera plays the most interesting character - Darius Tanz, a
billionaire inventor. The government has a plan to stop the
asteroid, but Darius doesn't trust that they can, so he's
developed a spaceship ark to take a group of humans to Mars
for safety. I believe Grace and Liam are the good guys, but
it's unclear about the honestey and motives of the other
two.
Someone is going around killing people who know
about the asteroid, but we don't know who's behind it or
why. Probably someone in the government. It's a very
interesting show, and enjoyable for the summer.
