Powerless cast

Review of "Powerless" 2/20/17 by Suzanne
Airs Thursdays 8:30/7:30c on NBC

I really wanted to like this comedy, but it's not very funny. It takes place in the DC comic book world, where Batman and other superheroes exist. Emily (Vanessa Hudgens) goes to work for Wayne Security (a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprise - i.e. Batman's company) in Charm City. The failing company is supposed to make products that help humans survive the superhero battles (which is somewhat of a parody of what they've been doing with the Avengers movies and Marvel University TV shows). Firefly's Alan Tudyk stars as her idiot boss, cousin to Bruce Wayne. There are a few other regular people who work in the office, but none of them are very funny or likable.

Maybe the show will get better with time, but I doubt it. The creator of the show did another not-very-funny show "A to Z." It was ok (funnier than this), but it only lasted one year. I'm surprised NBC let him do another one.

MORE INFORMATION:

In a world where humanity must cope with the collateral damage of Super Heroes and Super-Villains, Emily Locke (Vanessa Hudgens) begins her first day as Director of Research & Development for Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises that specializes in products that make defenseless bystanders feel a little safer. Full of confidence and big ideas, Emily quickly learns that her expectations far exceed those of her new boss (Alan Tudyk) and officemates, so it will be up to her to lead the team toward their full potential and the realization that you don’t need superpowers to be a hero.

Danny Pudi, Christina Kirk and Ron Funches also star.

Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, Len Goldstein, Marc Buckland and Dean Lorey are executive producers of “Powerless.” Buckland served as the director of the pilot. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television and is based on the characters from DC.
