Legends of Chamberlain Heights

"Legends of Chamberlain Heights" review by Suzanne 9/15/16
Airs Wednesdays 10:30/9:30c on Comedy Central

I didn't expect this show to be very funny because most TV comedies, animated or not, are not very funny.  There have only been a few exceptions, like "South Park," which airs before this one.  However, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself chuckling while watching this. Now, it's not highbrow humor at all, so don't expect it to be like "Modern Family" -- more like "Tosh.0"

The show is about three high school freshman who are on the basketball team, but they're also the school nerds and are fighting to get with girls as well as to play more and to be more popular. The characters on the show use very modern jargon, but even if you don't recognize exactly what they're saying, you should be able to figure it out from the context. If you're a teen, you probably would have no problem understanding it.

It's very juvenile humor, which is fine. Even more so than "South Park." The characters are very broad and silly (ridiculous even), and a lot of the jokes come from the kids making fun of each other. If you don't mind insult humor, you might like it. Some of it is also shock humor. They really push the envelope on this show. I just laughed every time the white kid tries to imitate his friends and use the N word, and the other guy just smacks him. I found that hilarious.  In some ways, the type of slapstick humor of the show can be traced back to "Abbott and Costello" or "Laurel and Hardy." It has a lot of sex jokes, though, which those didn't have, of course.  I must not be the only one who likes it, though, because they already renewed it for a second season back in July!  Check it out for yourself and see if it's your thing.
