Beyond poster

"Beyond" review by Suzanne 12/31/16
Premieres January 2, 9/8c on Freeform

I watched the first 4 episodes of this show and enjoyed it. I can't wait to see the rest. At first, I thought it was scifi, but it's more fantasy. A teen, Holden, is in a bike accident and gets in a coma for 12 years. He was a 7th grader before the accident, and he wakes up in his 20's. Worse, he finds that he has these strange powers that he can't control, and he has very weird dreams. Sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the woods, not sure how he got there.

Holden also has weird visions of this old man and starts seeing other things that aren't really there. He meets a young woman that knows him, but he doesn't remember her. In the meantime, we learn how his family has struggled while he was in the coma. Things take a very nasty turn for his best friend, too. There are some very interesting and colorful characters in the show. The show is a little slow-moving at times, but it does improve. It's interesting to note that Tim Kring (of "Heroes") is one of the executive producers, as well as David Eick (of "Battlestar Galactica")!

I think this is a very good show for anyone, but particularly teens. It reminds me a little of the old show Kyle XY. I have to say that the only thing that bothers me is that the boy at the beginning doesn't look like a 7th grader (too old), and the man he turns into, doesn't like he's in his 20's to me (too young). But otherwise, it's a very intriguing show. You'll want to check it out for yourself.
