I've been watching "Bones" since its premiere. They do
whatever they can to shake things up on the show and make it
fresh. Last season they didn't really end on a typical
cliff-hanger. Booth and Brennan decided to leave
Washington and leave the Jeffersonian, so that he could have
a desk job and they wouldn't be risking their lives any
more. It seemed like almost an ending to the series.
There are some very minor spoilers here: When the new
season starts, they're still in Washington, but he's
training agents at the FBI (almost a desk job) and she's
writing books while taking care of their two kids. They seem
very happy, but we can tell right away that Booth is hiding
something, and then he disappears. The entire first episode
is all about the search for Booth and wondering if he's dead
or not (not that any viewer would think that - you can't
have this show without Booth or Brennan). Then the second
episode, which I also saw, is all about where Booth is, what
he's involved with, and how the others are trying to find
him and save him. It's a two-part episode. "Castle"
did the same thing this year. Instead of having a season
finale, they had a happy ending in the Spring and then did a
two-part season premiere this Fall.
Some new characters are introduced for the two episodes,
including an FBI agent (played by Kim Raver), a scientist
(played by Josh Causabon), and the people Booth are hanging
out with, including the very busy Roger Cross ("Dark
Matter," "Continuum" et al.) and one of my favorite actors,
Brad Beyer ("Extant," "Jericho," and more). Brace
yourself for some shocks when one of the cast members
leaves, and one of the main character's relatives dies
(someone who's been on the show a few times). The show
always mixes some humor and romance with the action,
adventure, and sadness (along with the usual gruesome body
parts).
It's always fun and interesting to watch. The characters
are what makes this show great. We watch to see Booth
and Brennan, Angela and Hodgins, and the rest. They're a
great group and we feel like we know them after all this
time. Make sure you tune in because it's a good show and
very entertaining. I hope it's on for at least five more
years!
I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. They're
supposed to have a crossover event with "Sleepy
Hollow." That ought to be interesting!
