"Significant
Mother" review by Suzanne
8/19/15
Airs on
The CW Mondays this summer
I watched the first couple of episodes of this, and it's
not bad. You have to understand that I don't mind lowbrow
humor, as long as it's not too bad. I liked "Two and a Half
Men," "Seinfeld," "Frasier," "Will & Grace," "The Drew Carey
Show," et al. This is not as good as most of those, but it's
funny. I laughed and chuckled in parts.
Nate (Josh Zuckerman) is the protagonist of the show.
The premise is that Nate's roommate and best friend Jimmy
(Nathaniel Buzolic), sleeps with Nate's mom, Lydia (Krista
Allen), while Nate is away. Other characters in the show
include Nate's dad, Harrison (Jonathan Silverman); a girl
who works at Nate's restaurant, Sam (Emma Fitzpatrick); and
Sam's boyfriend, Atticus (Jay Ali). Nate also has a crush on
Sam.
The pilot got better as it went along, and the second
episode was even better. It's a fun summer show. You may
recognize Krista Allen from some of her soft porn movies, or
other sitcoms, or when she played Billie on "Days of Our
Lives." She's the epitome of the "hot mom" here.
Normally, she's a very good actress. She sort of over-acts a
bit here. They may have told her to do that, though.
Sometimes TV directors and producers can really affect the
way an actor comes over on a show, and not always in a good
way. They need to tone her down just a little bit. The
others all come over as much more real and likable.
