I've only seen the first episode so far, but I really
enjoyed it. It's a fun geek show about space travel. It
reminds me a little of the British show "Red Dwarf,"
especially the early days of that show when it was funniest.
Written by Paul Feig ("Bridesmaids" and "Freaks and
Geeks"), it's about a spaceship of mostly-young people that
gets lost in another universe (thus the name, "other
space"). They're all inexperienced, and sent out by a
private company to explore, but things go awry. I'm not
saying it's the funniest show I've ever seen, but it is very
cute and made me laugh. Also, just as scifi, it's
intriguing. It keeps you interested in what's going to
happen next, with these kooky characters.
A lot of comedies have offbeat or nerdy characters, but
sometimes they can be too weird and annoying. I would say
these guys don't go overboard in that department. The
show was influenced not only by "Red Dwarf", but also an
earlier scifi comedy show, "Quark," as well as other shows
like "Lost in Space". Also, it's not a low-budget
show. The special effects are all top quality.
Check it out. I think you'll like it! If you're a geek
like me, you'll probably love it.
