"NCIS:
New Orleans" review by Suzanne
Airs Tuesdays 9/8c on CBS
This is the second spin-off from the show "NCIS", which
has been around a long time and is one of the most popular
shows on CBS. I've always enjoyed watching "NCIS",
especially because of the characters on the show. The
murders they solve are not that important. However, a lot of
times, they show how the military covers up things, and
those are my favorite episodes.
"NCIS: Los Angeles", which is not my favorite, is more
about fighting terrorists than it is about solving murders
or Navy-related crimes. The characters are okay, and they
grow on you, but they're not as fun as the ones on NCIS.
For "NCIS: New Orleans", they wisely chose to make it
more like original flavor "NCIS", at least as far as I can
tell so far. The differences, though, are what make
this interesting. Since it's set in New Orleans, it's more
laid-back than the other two NCIS shows. Scott Bakula's
Dwayne "King" Pride is nothing like Jethro Gibbs or Hettie.
It's actually hard to believe that he was ever in the Navy.
He only has two agents, Merri and Chris, to help him with
the cases (plus the medical people). Merri is new to
New Orleans and loving the city. Chris is from Alabama and
has a thick accent. He looks the most like a Navy man.
The City of New Orleans is a character on the show as
well, and they do their best to show off how colorful and
lively it is, and its residents as well. There's a
sub-plot involving corrupt city officials (with Steven
Weber, who seems to be everywhere these days!) that looks
very promising.
If you like either of the other NCIS shows, you should
enjoy this one. If you're a huge fan of Scott Bakula, or of
New Orleans, you might like it even more! Scott Bakula is
always great, to me, and he's clearly having fun in the
show. Check it out!
