I wasn't too excited about watching this show, but I
thought I would at least watch the first episode. It's a
true crime drama, and at the beginning of the episode it
says that it is based on a true story. However, as in most
shows, they probably added some things to it to give it more
dramatic effect. The story centers around how the DEA fought
the war on drugs in the late 1970's and most of the 1980's.
It is very well done and even adds real news footage from
the time, which makes the show more interesting and adds to
the realistic feel of the show. The show centers around
young DEA agent Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) and his pursuit
of famed drug trafficker Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura).
The show is very exciting. It's really the villains who
steal the show because it is far more interesting to watch
how Pablo Escobar brings drugs into the U.S. then it is to
watch how the DEA continues to get frustrated in their
attempts to capture him. This show is very violent (as most
shows based on the drug trade are), but it is very
interesting to watch how Murphy explains in detailed
voice-overs how Escobar brought cocaine into the U.S.
If you like true crime drama. you will love this show. As I
said, it's very well done and interesting to watch, for the
most part. It did drag on a bit toward the end of the
episode, but perhaps in later episodes it won't do that so
much. I don't know what they will do if the show lasts more
then one season... maybe they can focus on a different drug
lord every season? I give this show 4 out of 5 stars.
