"Manhattan
Love Story" review by Suzanne
Airs Tuesdays 8:30/7:30pm on ABC
I enjoyed this sitcom. It reminds me of some of the
romantic comedies out in the movies, but it was pretty
funny. Better than most I've seen. It even made me a little
choked up near the end! That doesn't happen very often.
Analeigh Tipton plays Dana, a single woman, and Jake
McDorman plays Peter, a guy that her old college friend sets
her up with. They're both reluctant to be setup but agree to
it because the sister is really pushy. Dana just started a
new job, and they're really mean to her, so she ends up
having a really bad day before her date. The date doesn't go
well, but they do like each other and things develop later
from that.
Dana is new to the city and is kind of naïve, and Peter
is the opposite of that, but he finds her charming and
smart, despite himself. I just found the jokes kind of
funny, and I liked the characters. I'm not saying it's
hilarious or anything. She reminds me a little of the
actress who starred in "Dharma and Greg".
The show has a "gimmick", which is that we hear what each
of the characters think while they're on their date or
otherwise with each other. At first, when I saw the
commercials, I though it sounded kind of contrived and
stupid, but the show is pretty good on its own. They didn't
need to come up with the gimmick at all.
