I've never watched any shows on The CW before because it was never part of my satellite package until now. I am really happy I have it now because I was really excited to know that one of my favorite telenovela stars, Jaime Camil ("Rogelio") was going to be on it, playing Jane's father. The show is based on the popular Venezuelan show "Jauna la Virgen (Jane the Virgin)". The show has the same feel to it as "Ugly Betty", a great ABC TV show from a few years ago that was based on an extremely popular Columbian Telenovela, "Betty la Fea".

I am a big telenovela fan, but I have not seen the Spanish version of Jane the Virgin. The story is basically this: Jane (Gina Rodriguez) goes to the doctor for a pap smear and is accidentally inseminated instead because her doctor is distracted by personal problems. The first episode of the show is a bit confining because it tries to tell to much of the story at one time. The show has a large supporting cast of characters that made the pilot episode hard to follow. If you watch the first episode online, you may have to watch it twice to figure out the sequence of events.

Jane decides to have the baby for the woman who was supposed to be inseminated because it is the only chance that she and her husband will have to be able to have a child. The rest of the show will deal with how Jane copes with her life after being placed in this impossible situation. I will keep watching the show and hope that the episodes aren't as confusing as the pilot. I Like Gina Rodriguez, who plays Jane.  She is perfect for the role. If you enjoyed "Ugly Betty," I think you will like this show as well. I give it 4 out of 5 stars!  The show airs Mondays 9 PM Eastern 8 PM Central time on The CW
