The Brink cast

"The Brink" review by Suzanne 8/9/15
Airs Sundays 10:30pm on  HBO

I'm very sorry to be so late reviewing this sitcom. I've had a busy summer! This is a very funny political satire. A lot of reviewers have panned it, but I don't really understand that. Perhaps it's just too dark or too wacky for them. I think it's pretty hilarious.

You can't beat the cast, which features movie stars Tim Robbins, Jack Black, TV's Esai Morales and Daily Show's Aasif Mandvi.

Jack Black is Alex Talbot, a lazy, lecherous, low-level foreign service agent stationed in a fictional Arab country. He gets himself into trouble during a key time when the country becomes turbulent. Robbins plays Walter Larson, a slightly-older version of the same character as Secretary of State. Pablo Schreiber plays an air force pilot who seems to spend most of his time selling or doing drugs. Mandvi plays Rafiq, Talbot's driver, who has to put up with him.

If you love politics, you should enjoy this. It's worth watching and funny.

MORE:

A new half-hour dark comedy series, The Brink focuses on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men: Walter Larson (played by Tim Robbins), the US Secretary of State; Alex Talbot (Jack Black), a lowly Foreign Service officer; and Zeke Tilson (Pablo Schreiber), an ace Navy fighter pilot. These three compromised souls must pull through the chaos around them to save the planet from World War Three. The show also features Aasif Mandvi, Maribeth Monroe, Carla Gugino and Eric Ladin.

The series is created by Roberto Benabib, with Kim Benabib. It is executive produced by Jerry Weintraub, Jay Roach and Roberto Benabib, with Kim Benabib as co-executive producer. Jay Roach directed the series pilot. In addition to starring, Jack Black and Tim Robbins also serve as producers, and Aasif Mandvi as co-producer.
