"12
Monkeys" review by Suzanne
11/28/14
Premieres January 16 on Syfy
This looks like a good new series. It has elements of
some other shows, like "Helix" and "Continuum", but I'm not
saying that it's derivative. It has its own story, ideas and
characters. I haven't seen the movie that it came from, so I
can't speak to how much or not like the movie it is.
I watched the first two episodes and they were pretty
interesting. It kept my interest and was exciting. There's
lots of action and mystery. Cole is a man from the future
that comes back to try to stop a plague that wipes out
humanity in the future. He gets the help of a virologist
named Dr. Cassandra Railly.
They do a good job of setting it all up without letting
us know all of the threads of what will happen. I do enjoy a
good time travel story. It has some good actors, like Kirk
Acevedo ("Fringe"), Noah Bean ("Nikita") and Zeljko Ivanek
("Revolution" so and many other shows). The actor who plays
Cole (Aaron Stanford, who was also on "Nikita" and played
Pryo in "X-Men: The Last Stand") is cute and does a great
job.
You should definitely watch it if you like good time
travel or "what if" stories. I think it's a bit better than
"Continuum" and doesn't scream "low budget" like that one
sometimes does.
Update: I really enjoy this show, and it gets better and
better. There's more exciting stuff coming up, so you don't
want to miss it! I think it's one of the best new shows that
Syfy's had for quite a while.
