This is a very enjoyable movie, for the most part, with
lots of excitement, danger, and drama. Julie Benz (of
"Defiance", "Dexter" and many other shows) stars as a police
detective, Stevie, whose daughter Sophie goes (with her
friend, Janie) to visit Russia for Spring Break. The
girls are then kidnapped by sex traffickers. Sophie flies to
Russia to begin a search. Along the way, she learns all
about how girls are sold into sex slavery. It's very gritty
as well as educational. About an hour in, the action really
revs up and things get a little bit more into the land of
action-adventure, and a little less believable.
Benz is always good, and she's just as good playing a
tough woman as she is a sweet or soft woman. I don't have a
full cast list, so I don't know who plays all of the
interesting characters in the show, but they all do a fine
job. I enjoyed seeing Jeffrey Meek as Stevie's boyfriend (he
was great on "As the World Turns"). Popular
British actor
Alastair Mackenzie plays Janie's ambassador father.
What's unusual about this movie is that it has two very
tough women going out to protect two young girls from some
really awful men. You don't see that very often in TV.
You should definitely check it out! Also, please see
my interview with Julie
Benz.
MORE INFO:
18 year-old Sophie Parker goes on spring break to Moscow
with her friend Janie Hillman, daughter of the American
Ambassador to Russia. When a reluctant Sophie is convinced
by boy-crazy Janie to sneak out of the U.S. Embassy and go
to a nightclub, the two girls are drugged and abducted by a
Russian sexual slavery ring operating in the heart of
Moscow. Sophie's widowed mother, Stevie, is a tough NYPD
detective. When she gets an alarming and mysterious call
from Sophie's cell-phone, Stevie takes the next plane to
Russia, where she moves heaven and earth, and the Moscow
police, on her frantic and action-packed quest to save her
baby girl.
