Most regular Syfy viewers know that they show a lot of
silly movies like this that are low budget but entertaining
(and
not for discerning viewers). This is sort of like the movie
Independence Day but makes far less sense, the acting is not
as good, and the special effects are a lot worse. Still, it
was fun to watch.
Aliens attack the earth on the 4th of July. The action
focuses on this one small town. The president is from this
town, and his brother still lives there. The president's son
is visiting his uncle, too, and they expect the president to
drop by in his helicopter. The brother is a
firefighter. The aliens somehow burrow from underground as
well as from the air. Mostly we see the brother, the kid,
the kid's girlfriend, and another kid (a fat kid - you know
he's not going to live
long) run from the aliens. They find this woman
scientist who is an expert on aliens and such. Also,
the president's life is in jeopardy, and he has to fight
with other people on his staff about how to deal with the
aliens.
I liked Tom Everett Scott as the president. I could take
or leave the others. They were all pretty forgettable. It
was an enjoyable little ride. I didn't really like the very
last camera shot at the end of the movie. It sort of takes
away from what happened.
There isn't much else on during the 4th of July to watch,
so you might as well watch this!
