TV Show Reviews

"Chicago
Fire" review by Suzanne
Wednesdays 10/9c on NBC
I watched the season premiere last week and it was pretty
good. I wouldn't say it's the best show in the world, but
it's not bad. If you like to see things blowing up or
catching on fire, or hunky guys in perilous situations, then
you will like the show. It reminds me of "Third Watch",
which was a similar show.
I would say that it was a mistake to make Jesse Spencer
the lead character. He's okay, but he's not really
charismatic enough to carry a show. I don't know why, too,
they get these gorgeous guys with long hair and accents,
then they cut their hair and make them speak like Americans!
It was stupid when they did it with Hugh Laurie, too. Why
get rid of the things that make them sexy? They are doing it
with the guy who stars in "Arrow", too. The other main
recognizable hunk on the show is Taylor Kinney, who was the
werewolf Mason on "Vampire Diaries" until they killed him
off. He has a lot of great charisma, but they have him as a
sullen drug addict on this show... not so attractive.
The show's writing is fine. It's a very serious show
about firefighters and the other rescue workers that they
work with. One of their guys dies in the first episode, and
they bring in a new guy, so we learn a lot about them
through his eyes (a tried-and-true TV trick). If I had more
time, I would watch the show. I don't think it did very well
in the ratings so far against the other new show
"Nashville", though.
