"The Soul Man"
review by Suzanne
Wednesdays 10/9pm on TVLAND
This just isn't very funny. It needs more jokes. Perhaps
it will get better, like "Hot in Cleveland" did. Then again,
this show doesn't have Betty White...
It stars Cedric the Entertainer as a preacher, Boyce
Vallentine, who's a former R&B singer. His family is
still getting used to his being a preacher, and his dad was
a preacher as well.
The first episode is about how the church ladies are not
going to his wife's new hair salon. Apparently Boyce
was a character on an episode of "Hot in Cleveland" (though
I don't remember). At thend of the first episode, there was
some good singing.
This is a light and airy show without much substance, and
to me, without much humor. Clearly TVLAND is trying to make
a black version of its other shows, but this is not nearly
good enough. Maybe they should hire someone who worked on
"The Cosby Show" or one of those old shows like "Sanford &
Son" instead.
