Rizzoli & Isles

"Rizzoli & Isles" review by Suzanne
Returns Monday July 11 at 10pm on TNT

I love the show Rizzoli & Isles because the two stars play off each other so nicely. They have a great bickering friendship. You don't find too many good female friendships on TV. In fact, you don't find too many cop shows starring women, either. Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander do a great job in their roles, as do all the supporting characters. Harmon plays detective Jane Rizzoli, and Alexander plays Maura Isles, a medical examiner. Jane is really tough, and Isles is kind of a nerd.

In the season opener on July 11, we see that Jane is recovering from the injuries she sustained at the end of last season. The other people are also feeling the emotional fall-out of what happened when the bad guys came in and shot up the police station.

We also see some more of Jane's family and the turmoil that is brewing there. Jane and Maura go to a spa, and a women is murdered right near there, so they investigate the case, which is very interesting and takes many turns.

It's good stuff. Be sure to tune in, and you won't be sorry.

Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander Return in Cable’s #1 Series, TNT’s RIZZOLI & ISLES

Second Season of Top-Rated Series Set to Launch Monday, July 11, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT)

The wait is finally over. The #1 series on basic cable – TNT’s RIZZOLI & ISLES – returns with Angie Harmon (Law & Order) and Sasha Alexander (NCIS) as Boston’s top crime-solving duo.  The second season of RIZZOLI & ISLES begins Monday, July 11, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), following the seventh-season premiere of TNT’s hit series THE CLOSER.

Based on characters created by best-selling crime novelist Tess Gerritsen, RIZZOLI & ISLES stars Harmon as Jane Rizzoli, a tough-as-nails Boston police detective, and Alexander as Maura Isles, a smart, impeccably dressed medical examiner from a privileged background. Despite being complete opposites, the two women share an offbeat chemistry and strong working relationship that has helped them bust some of Boston’s most notorious criminals.

Lorraine Bracco stars as Jane’s demanding and intrusive mother, Angela. Lee Thompson Young is Detective Barry Frost, Jane’s somewhat green partner. Bruce McGill plays Detective Vince Korsak, Jane’s seasoned former partner who resents her being paired with Frost. And Jordan Bridges is Jane’s brother, Frankie Jr., a patrol cop who hopes one day to become a detective.

As the second season of RIZZOLI & ISLES opens, Jane and Frankie Jr. are each recovering from bullets they took during a siege at the police station. As Jane struggles to overcome scars that are more emotional than physical, an old flame – Sergeant Major Charles “Casey” Jones (Chris Vance – Dexter, Burn Notice) – comes back into her life.

On the homefront, Jane’s mother is despondent over a major upheaval in her own life. The situation will be complicated even more by the arrival of Jane’s older brother, Tommy (Colin Egglesfield – Something Borrowed, Melrose Place), who was recently released from prison. And for Maura, home life will get complicated when she receives a visit from her adoptive mother, Constance Isles (Jacqueline Bisset – Nip/Tuck, Joan of Arc), a brilliant modern artist and art historian.

Jane and Maura will take on a number of intriguing cases this season, including a murder carried out during a Revolutionary War re-enactment, a killing in a professional baseball team’s locker room, a complicated case involving a surrogate mother and a case involving the Salem witch trials. Jane will also face the return of serial killer Charles Hoyt (Michael Massee – Flash Forward), who takes a special joy in tormenting her.

Among the guest stars lined up for the second season of RIZZOLI & ISLES are Ernie Hudson (Oz, Ghostbusters) as Frost’s father, a Navy admiral; Matthew Del Negro (United States of Tara, Parenthood) as a mechanic who catches Maura’s eye; and Bill O’Reilly (The O’Reilly Factor) as a potential murder suspect.

After scoring a record-breaking premiere last summer, RIZZOLI & ISLES went on to average 8.8 million viewers for its first season, the largest audience ever for a basic cable series. RIZZOLI & ISLES comes to TNT from Warner Horizon Television and is executive-produced by Janet Tamaro (Bones, Lost) and her Hurdler Productions, Bill Haber and his Ostar Productions (TNT’s Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King, TCM’s upcoming Moguls and Movie Stars: A History of Hollywood), Joel Fields (Ugly Betty) and Michael Zinberg (JAG). Michael M. Robin (TNT’s The Closer) is a consulting producer. RIZZOLI & ISLES was developed for television by Janet Tamaro.
