Primetime Show Reviews

The River Tuesdays 9/8c

"The River" review by Suzanne
Airs Tuesdays 9/8c on ABC

I enjoyed the first episode of "The River". It's about an explorer who goes missing in a remote section of the jungle, and his wife and kid go looking for him, with a camera crew (for a reality show).

It is a good horror flick. One of the creators of the show wrote the "Paranormal Activity" movies. The other one has written many good shows, including the fine horror TV show "American Gothic".

It is the type of show with handheld cameras and lots of spooky things that you can barely see, people screaming and causing a fuss.

The cast is great, and the characters are interesting. I only have two complaints. One, it is very dark visually, and they do that on purpose so you can't see the monsters etc. very well, but to me it's irritating. 2, I love Bruce Greenwood, and we only see him occasionally here, in flashbacks and on film.

Otherwise this is a good TV show, and it will be interesting to see how they can sustain it for a whole season.
