"Ringer"
review by Suzanne
Airs Tuesdays, 9/8c on The CW
Every year, I choose one new show to watch. Otherwise, if I
tried to watch all of the new ones, I wouldn't have time for anything else! So
this year it's "Ringer", mostly because of Sarah Michelle Gellar starring in it.
She was great on both "All My Children" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", and
she's excellent in this show as well.
She plays twin sisters. One is a single former drug addict, Bridget; and the
other is a married rich woman named Siobhan. Gellar plays both roles, and she
does a very good job. Bridget witnessed a murder, so she is being watched before
she testifies, but she escapes to see her sister. They go out on a boat
together, and Siobhan disappears, so Bridget thinks she died. Since she's on the
run anyway, she takes Siobhan's place.
The plot sounds a bit like the new show "The Lying Game", where there are two
twin sisters, and one takes the other's place when she disappears (the show,
too, stars a former soap opera star). However, that's pretty much where the
similarities end. I think "Lying Game" is a little better, but it's hard to say
after just one episode of each show.
It is hard to believe that someone can pretend to be another person, twin or
not, especially when she doesn't know the woman's husband or friends. It does
seem like just about everyone in the show has a lot of secrets, though, which
may be fun to discover. I will keep watching and see how it goes. I hope it gets
even better. It's not that it's bad, it just could be a lot more exciting. Watch it and judge for yourself!
