Memphis Beat

"Memphis Beat" review by Suzanne
Premieres Tuesday, June 14, at 9/8c on TNT

I really enjoyed the first season of this show, and I'm glad to see it back. Jason Lee does a great job as Dwight, but really the whole ensemble cast is great, and the writing is wonderful. It's a lot more than just a cop show. It has music, and fun, and interesting stuff going on.

The first two episodes of this summer's season are great. Dwight meets a young woman (an IA detective), and they share a kiss. She looks like she may be a recurring character.  There are some more interesting guest stars as well.

One of the episodes they sent me was about investigating the death of a fellow officer.  Another episode was about robberies of affluent homes. The cases, of course, are not really the reason to watch the show. The best part of the show is the characters and their relationships, not only to each other, but to their city.

Don't worry if you missed the first season...you will not feel left out!

PRESS INFO:

The series stars Jason Lee (My Name Is Earl) as Memphis detective Dwight Hendricks and Alfre Woodard (Three Rivers) as his no-nonsense boss, Lt. Tanya Rice, with DJ Qualls (Hustle & Flow) as Officer Davey Sutton, who considers himself to be Dwight’s protégé and Sam Hennings (The Aviator) as Dwight’s partner Charlie “Whitehead” White. In the second-season opener of MEMPHIS BEAT, the squad will be plunged into a case involving the death of an admired police officer who may have been involved with a white supremacist group. The case hits home for Dwight, who relates to the young son the officer left behind. It also introduces Dwight to Claire Ryan (guest star Beau Garrett – TRON: Legacy), a tough investigator from Internal Affairs.

The exciting season two premiere of the bluesy, guitar-laced crime drama will premiere Tuesday, June 14, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). Jason Lee (My Name Is Earl) stars as a Memphis police detective with an intimate connection to the city, a passion for its music and a very demanding boss. Alfre Woodard (True Blood) and DJ Qualls (Hustle & Flow) also star.
