"Shedding the
Wedding"
review by Suzanne
Premieres Wednesday, February 23 on The CW 9/8c
This show is about real people, not the so-called "pretty
people" that you often see on competition shows. It's kind of like "The
Biggest Loser", but with an added twist or motivation. They are not just trying
to lose weight, they are trying to lose weight in time for their wedding. There
are all these overweight couples, and they want to lose weight to look good. If
they win, they also get prizes, like having their wedding outfits or honeymoon
paid for. So there is a lot of incentive here.
I'm sure most of us can relate to these couples. I was not fat
back when I was got married, and it's a shame that there are so many overweight
young people now. However, it's a sad commentary about our society that there
isn't any woman in the world, probably, that doesn't think she's fat, at just
about any age. So even when I was young and pretty thin, I thought I had
needed to lose weight for
my wedding. Fortunately, I didn't have too much to lose. I just gave up
eating desserts and potatoes for a couple of weeks and it worked. Things that
don't work so well when you're older! And you know what, why do wedding dresses
need to be white, anyway? ONLY skinny people look good in white. I can see why
some weddings are now putting everyone in black or other dark colors.
But I digress. These are real people, not pretty people or
celebrities or wanna-be's, and they're not the hideous losers that you so often
see on some reality shows, just so that you can feel superior to them.
They are just regular young people that want to look good for their wedding. And
although the emphasis is on the wedding, they do tell them that the idea is to
change their eating and exercising habits for life. Hopefully some viewers will
be moved and inspired by this and get off their couches to change their own
lives.
They did the show well, and parts are funny, and other parts are
just fun or interesting to watch. The couples are very likable, of course,
and you root for them. I think anyone will enjoy watching it. Check
it out!! If they can win me over, a noted reality-show hater, they could win you
over, too.
