Primetime Show Reviews

"Off the Map"
review by Suzanne
Wednesdays, 10/9c on ABC
This is a very entertaining show. If you like shows like Grey's
Anatomy, ER, Private Practice, etc. you will like this one...probably even more.
It has all that medical excitement, but it's amped up because they are in the
jungle and threatened by many things.
The show is about doctors out in some South American jungle that treat people in
a tiny hospital. It's not a real hospital like you or I would know it, of
course. They don't have a lot of supplies or money or equipment. They often have
to make do with local herbs instead of real medicines.
In the first episode, three new young doctors arrive, so we see everything
through their eyes (just like on Grey's Anatomy). Many exciting things happen,
and of course there is also flirting, joking around, and other emotional stuff.
It does not really ever slow down or get dull. You will like it unless you are
looking for something very meaningful or outstanding, or you just don't like
doctor shows. It's a fun way to pass the time.
The cast does a fine job. They are all young, good looking people. Well, one of
them, Mimi, is not that pretty (she kind of looks like Anne Heche's ugly younger
sister), but the others all are. You may recognize some of the faces from other
shows. Valerie Cruz (Zita) has been on "True Blood" and "Dexter". Jason George
has been on "Grey's Anatomy", "Eastwick" and many other shows (his first big job
was Sunset Beach). The lead romantic guy, who looks a bit like Matthew Fox on
Lost, is Ben, played by Australian actor Martin Henderson. He is pretty gorgeous
even among this group of stunners.
