"Lizard
Lick Towing"
review by Suzanne
Mondays 10/9pm on truTV starting Feb. 7
These type of lowest-common denominator reality shows seem to
all have the same elements:
1) "Average" working men and women (the more tawdry the better)
2) cursing and other "regular" talk
3) lots of tattoos
4) playing up to the camera
5) confrontation (physical if possible)
Of course the last one is what makes for the drama of the show.
This show is about some guys, and one gal, who run a towing company. That
wouldn't sound very interesting, except they also do some repo work, which means
they have confrontations with people who don't want their cars towed away.
The name of the towing company is "Lizard Lick" because they are in a town of
that name in North Carolina. This is a spinoff from another reality show, "All
Worked Up".
I'm always suspicious of reality shows because I always wonder how much of the
show is really "real". I don't know why anyone would want to watch real people
fighting and arguing, anyway, but if you did, wouldn't you want it to be real? I
know I would. Even if it is real, you know these people are all playing up to
the camera and trying to make things as exciting as possible.
I'll be really glad when this kind of reality show is no longer popular. It's
just voyeuristic and makes everyone look tacky and stupid.
If you like all those other reality shows about tattoo parlors, pawn shops, and
the like, then you'll probably like this one.
