Primetime Show Reviews

"The Event"
season premiere review by Suzanne
Mondays 9/8 c on NBC
The Event is a really cool and intriguing show. It might remind
you a little bit of Lost or last year's FlashForward, but in most ways it's very
unique. It's hard to say too much about it without ruining the plot for you if
you haven't seen the first few episodes yet.
Suffice it to say that there is a very large cast, and we see what happens to
them at various important times, and lots of flashbacks to what happened to them
in previous times (just like Lost). I found the flashbacks a bit confusing, but
not too bad.
The people are very distinctive looking so there is no risk of getting confused
about who is who. And they make them interesting people so we do care what
happens to them.
One of the characters is the president, who is of Cuban ancestry. He wants to
close a Guantanamo-like facility, but everyone else seems against it. Let's just
say that the people there are not regular people. I'll give you a hint. This
show is definitely science fiction. It is not questionable like Lost. At least,
so far. They could change it, I suppose.
Anyway, it definitely has a lot of stuff going on and leaves you at the edge of
your seat. The performances are very good, too. The actors are all top notch,
A-list TV actors like Blair Underwood, Zeljko Ivanek, and Laura Innes.
I hope this show last longer than FlashForward did. It is one I will definitely
keep watching.
