Primetime Show Reviews

Detroit 1-8-7 cast

"Detroit 1-8-7" season premiere review by Suzanne
Tuesdays 10/9 c on ABC

The ads for this show compare it to NYPD Blue and Homicide: Life on the Street, and that is true. It is very similar to both, when they were good. It has colorful police detective in realistic daily cop drama. The writing is very good. I'm not entirely sure it's as good as either of those two shows' writing, but it's very good. I don't know why they have not set more police shows in Detroit because it seems like a great idea.

The cast is great and has many actors you will recognize from past shows, especially James McDaniel. Michael Imperioli from The Sopranos plays the main detective, Fitch, who is a great detective but also a bit of a strange guy. He has a new partner who is still learning, whose wife is having a baby. There are other good characters, too. The important thing here, though, is the story. Someone is murdered and they solve it. It's very good crime drama, especially if you like a lot of realism.
