Primetime Show Reviews

"The Chicago Code"
review by Suzanne
Premieres Monday 9/8c on FOX February 7
This is a very good police show. It's a lot more than that,
though. It's all about city corruption and the power struggle between the
corrupt city alderman in Chicago and the honest police (and everyone caught in
the middle). The main character, Teresa, is played by veteran actress Jennifer
Beals. Teresa has been promoted to superintendent, so she wants to clean up the
city's corruption (headed by the alderman). Jason Clarke plays Detective Wysocki.
He helps Teresa on the sly as they work to get proof and put bad guys away.
Another great veteran actor, Delroy Lindo, plays the crooked alderman (the big
bad guy of the series). It's great to watch the dance between Beals and Lindo (a
metaphorical one, not like her old movie "Flashdance"!)
The writing and acting is fantastic. Clarke reminds me a lot of Chandler Bing on
"Friends" (not that you can tell from that photo above), looks-wise, but he's a
much better actor. It has a large cast with tons of little threads in the story.
It's not hard to follow, though. You really need to watch it because it's just
great, and I predict that it will be very successful. It's like a little
mini-movie every week. That's how good it is.
The show's regular characters sometimes narrate the show, which gives you a peek
inside their heads. It is a jarring at first, but you quickly get used to it,
and they don't overdo it as a gimmick. I watched the first 3 episodes and was
riveted throughout. In fact, it's pretty surprising that this show is on FOX
because they don't always have regular dramas this good. It is more like
something that would normally air on FX (except that it's not as violent and
full of bad words). Probably because it's from the creative mind of Shawn Ryan,
who also did "The Shield" on FX. Watch it, and tell your friends to watch it!
