"Trauma" Series Premiere
Review by Suzanne
Airing on NBC Mondays 9/8 c
"Trauma" is definitely a great name for this show.
"Accident" or "mayhem" or "Action" would also have worked. This show is
practically non-stop action. It has tons of great explosions, speeding cars,
things crashing, etc. It makes "ER" look dull. The show was created
by Peter Berg, who knows something about these kind of shows. Besides being an
experienced writer and producer, he was an actor in "Chicago Hope".
The show is about paramedics and other rescue workers, and the
hospital where they take the victims of accidents. It features a fine, mostly
young cast. From the first ten minutes of the pilot, you will be shocked
and then things just get crazier. It's like a roller-coaster ride, sort of
like you would get in "24", but without all the political intrigue.
You do get to know the rescue workers and doctors, and it has of
those soap opera elements that are a mainstay of shows like "ER". However,
most of the show focuses on the action and how they handle the various disasters
that occur.
If you're looking for a fun, fast-paced thrill ride with lots of
exciting things happening, this is the show for you. If you want to find a
realistic show about paramedics, you should probably skip this and rent the old
series "Emergency"
on DVD. Adrenaline junkies should love this show if the rest of the season
is anything like the first episode.
It should do well; I don't think it has strong competition in
its time slot. I think it will be a big hit.
