Primetime Show Reviews

"Psych" Season Premiere Review by Suzanne

The folks at "Psych" make their show look so easy, so silly, so fun, that you forget a lot of hard work goes into it.  They have great writers, actor, and from what I've heard, crew. They all have fun, and it shows on the screen.

The season premiere episode is a fun "Thomas Crown Affair"-like spoof. It even references shows like "The Mentalist" and "Remington Steele."  Shawn and Gus (and most of the rest of the gang) travel to Canada to catch a thief. There are some great Canada jokes as well.

I really enjoyed it, and I know you will, too.  Watch the show and tell all your friends to watch it because it's truly one of the world's greatest under-rated shows.  We want to keep it around longer!

Press release:

JAMES RODAY AND DULÉ HILL RETURN FOR SEASON FOUR OF THE HIT
USA NETWORK ORGINAL SERIES “PSYCH” ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 7 AT 10/9C

Guest stars include James Brolin and Sendhil Ramamurthy plus Cary Elwes in Season Premiere. Favorite Rachael Leigh Cook Returns to Guest

Even Shawn Spencer could have seen this one coming... PSYCH, the hit original series starring James Roday (“The Dukes of Hazzard”), Dulé Hill (“The West Wing”) and Corbin Bernsen (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang,” “L.A. Law”), returns with its fourth season on USA Network. With a bit of romance and plenty of mayhem, the hit series launches all new episodes on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 10/9c. The action intensifies this season as the crime fighting duo of Shawn and Gus save an old western town from a corporate take-over which ends with an old fashioned showdown and prove an exorcism may not be the only way to exorcise a demon.

On the personal side, Shawn and his girlfriend Abigail's (Cook) relationship grows and Shawn has to adjust to being in a relationship. In the premiere episode, “Extradition: British Columbia,” Shawn and Gus outwit a notorious international art thief, Despereux (Cary Elwes), and when they travel to the ski slopes of Vancouver, they discover that he’s not an art thief but an insurance scam artist.

The fourth season guest stars include Elwes (“The Princess Bride,” “Twister”), James Brolin (“Catch Me If You Can,” “Hotel”), and Sendhil Ramamurthy (“Heroes”) plus a return appearance by Rachael Leigh Cook ("She's All That," "The Babysitter's Club"). PSYCH is executive produced by Steve Franks (“Big Daddy”), Kelly Kulchak and Chris Henze, with Universal Cable Productions in association with Tagline Pictures. Mel Damski (“Picket Fences”) serves as the executive producer and serves as a director. Saladin K. Patterson (“The Bernie Mac Show”) and Bill Callahan (“Scrubs”) are co-executive producer/writers.

Fans can countdown the days to the premiere with the "PSYCH Countdown Calendar" featuring new content everyday by going to the official site psych.usanetwork.com . Watch interviews with the writers and actors to learn about what to look forward to this season, play along with "Shawn’s Nickname Generator" and even check out the cast’s yearbook photos in PSYCH Yearbook Superlatives." As always, PSYCH fans can watch new "Psych-Outs," view full episodes, read writer commentary on each episode and play fun games featuring their favorite fake psychic detective. A quick-witted drama,

PSYCH follows the adventures of young police consultant, Shawn Spencer (Roday), who solves crimes with powers of observation so acute the precinct detectives think he's psychic – at least that’s what he lets them believe. Spencer is joined by his best friend and reluctant sidekick, Gus, and his disapproving father (Bernsen), who ironically was the one who honed his son's "observation" skills as a child. Also featured are Timothy Omundson (“Judging Amy,” “Deadwood”), Maggie Lawson (“Crumbs,” “Inside Schwartz”) and Kirsten Nelson (“Everwood”).

USA Network continues to drive innovation through advanced online components and features to support popular series, including compelling games, trivia, video and overall online interaction. This season PSYCH fans will have the opportunity to continue to explore favorite online components, including cast interviews, trivia, PSYCH Outs, plus count downs to the season unlocking engaging new content each day.
