"Eastwick" Series Premiere
Review by Suzanne
Airing on ABC Wednesdays 10/9 c
I really enjoyed this show's premiere. I love scifi/fantasy-type
shows, anyway, and I enjoy shows with strong female characters. The show
is somewhat of a cross between "Desperate Housewives" and "Charmed". It's
based on the movie "Witches of Eastwick", which was based on a John Updike
novel.
Three women in a small New England town make a wish at the town
fountain and discover that they have powers, at the same time that they connect
as friends. A strange and mysterious man comes to town right after that
and helps them with their powers and to improve their lives. Of course, he's not
what he seems, and indeed my guess is that he is evil.
One of the women, Roxie (Rebecca Romijn), is a free-spirited
artist with a teenage daughter and a very young lover (she dreams what will
happen). Another is Joanna (Lindsay Price), who is a timid newspaper
reporter that has a thing for the paper's photographer (she can get men to do
her biddign). The third woman is Kat (Jamie Ray Newman), an over-worked mom and
nurse, who has a lazy husband (she controls the elements). The stranger in
town, Darryl (Paul Gross) buys the local paper and some other businesses.
He gives Roxie a job and helps out her daughter, and there is a lot of sexual
tension between them. Darryl encourages Joanna to go after what she wants, and
Kat finds the strength to deal with her good-for-nothing husband.
I can't wait to see what happens in the next episode. It
is a very good show, and I hope it's a smash hit. It has some competition
against Jay Leno and CSI: NY. Watch it this week!
